GIRLS Aloud and the Sugababes have been given a caning by Celebrity Fame Academy headmaster Richard Park.

The sexy rival pop acts have united to record a cover version of the Run DMC smash Walk This Way for Comic Relief.

But Park, whose show is raising money for the same cause, has put them bottom of the class in the singing stakes.

The 57-year-old music chief, dubbed “Strict Dickâ€, accused Girls Aloud, whose hits include covers of the Pointer Sisters’ Jump and The Pretenders’ I’ll Stand By You, of failing to be original.

He hissed: “As a head teacher of the Fame Academy I have to judge on voices and choose the best voices around.

“And I don’t hear a great deal of singing talent there.â€

Of the Sugababes, whose smashes include Push The Button and Stronger, acid-tongued Park said: “Well they came, they went and then they came back again.

“I feel they are an act driven by A & R departments rather than their own ability to sing.†The two bands are fuming at Park’s cutting comments and have vowed to take him to task when they meet him.

Both Girls Aloud and the Sugababes are due to visit the Fame Academy during the BBC show’s run and give a masterclass to some of the celebs taking part.

They include jungle babe Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, 35, Blue Peter babe Zoe Salmon, 24, and former EastEnder Shaun Williamson, 42.

Last night Park seemed to be backing down a little.

He said of the girls’ record: “I hope it sells millions and raises lots of money.â€

* Comic Relief Does Fame Academy starts on Saturday on BBC1 at 5.55pm.
