First day in ages it's stopped raining and blowing a gale. I've been tossing up what to do with such a day for at least an hour. I better make a decision soon or it'll be over before I can enjoy it.

Gardening's out that's for sure. The ground here is clay and it doesn't drain well generally but just now it's an absolute quagmire.

Another day when it's too warm for a coat. The trouble is, the bumble bees have come out of hibernation. The first cold snap kills them and we hardly see any over summer. the plants seem to think it's spring too.
It's bitter here and the snow is lying and I have to tear myself away to go to a funeral today. I'm feeling sad because it's brought back memories of my lovely grandmother's funeral and all she meant to me.
I hate funerals. Sometimes you can't avoid them. I should be walking the dog. It's not very cold but it is VERY windy and things are blowing down. I'd rather avoid the river until it calms a bit.
It's the trees blowing down that cause the problem. Instead on an hour or so, the poor dog only got 20min walk
Lovely. I'm going out for dinner. It's a fairly nice day. i think I'll put on the glad rags and cheer myself up.

Must take the dogs out.

Not as cold today....but I've been wearing coat and scarf for weeks...even put a hat on when I've remembered to pick it up

I've just been reading some of Burns poetry. There was a lovely reading of an excerpt from The Cotter's Saturday Night at the funeral last week and it reminded me of how much I loved his works.

He may have been a drinking man and a womaniser by all accounts, but he really understood what was going on around him and he wrote some great stuff.

I must go and get the papers. Beautiful sunshine, it's hard to believe we are still (just) in January. I feel a longer than normal dog walk coming on after that.

the sun has gone in now. I could still see the dog when I came back at 5. He's brown, so becomes invisble very easily.

my father-in-law's complan next. I keep thinking that this the problem when people have children late in life - but, if he hadn't we wouldn't be around to look after him.
