Have you found any blue sky yet, Pam.

BT, I've had lunch, I had a soup from Sainsbury's and a wholemeal roll.

Nina,

We've just been told that the high water level will be reaching us tomorrow. That, on top of the fact that it has started raining here, is something to REALLY look forward to.

Raking up the grass and getting it into the garden rubbish recycle bins which our council emptied for us only this morning -it really is like a never ending cycle.

Ours is emptied in the morning...but it's every 2 weeks....if the grass is cut in the next few days it hums to high heaven before it's emptied again
I should be trying to do something with the ponds edges..I have drowned a mouse...feeling guilty - I filled it up yesterday and left it to settle I didnt put any stones into the shallow edge and it must have fallen in and not been able to get out, temporary stepping stones in now..at this rate I wont be helping wildlife..I'll be killing it off!
I hate it when something like tha happens. We have some shrews under one of the sheds and treated the wood at the bottom. It must have disturbed them and we ended up with these tiny dead little things as next doors cat enjoyed the disturbance. I've also found you have to be so careful cutting things back in case the birds have a second or third brood.

Buying a new lawn mower.

When I was raking up the grass, I thought one patch looked a bit higher so I got out the mower. It seemed really slow and wasn't cutting that well so I made sure it was clean and the blades were in properly. next thing there's smoke pouring out of it and a dreadful smell.

In this case neglect might have been better.

I should be getting ready to go to Bourne End.daughters pestering me

mm..wonder if its under water yet! keep reading about all these gallons surging down the thames..its rather putting me off going any nearer it!

Slugs and snails are my bugbear. I don't want to put down chemicals. Have they any natural predators?
I take them for a walk at night. Miles away from gardens. Thrush and other birds eat snails, hedgehogs eat slugs.

my neighbour used to do that, she would bribe the kids to collect the snails in a bucket..then she would take them up the woods behind us..we are sure they followed her home though! black birds and thrushes eat snails ..hedgehogs love slugs! and the frogs eat them too I think. I havent had too much problems this year, I only bait around the vegetables that they seem to love and leave the rest to the birds. they shrivel and foam so quickly after eating the bait..the birds wont touch them.

its lovely here, been touring the garden centres with daughter, who luckily is stronger than me so picked up some rockery stones for the pond with me.
