Parlophone and All Saints part ways

Source Music Week

After much speculation, Parlophone has confirmed today that All Saints are no longer part of label’s roster.

The Nettwerk-managed group, who reformed in November, enjoyed Top 10 success with their comeback single Rock Steady. However, the momentum was not enough to drive album interest, with the associated set Studio 1, only managing a lowly debut at 40.

A second single, Chick Fit, also failed to perform, failing to crack to top 200 last week.

In Parlophone’s official statement the label said, “Parlophone Records and All Saints have made the mutual decision to part company. Both the label and the group are proud of the album Studio 1. All Saints are excited about moving forward with their career and Parlophone wishes them the best of luck.â€

In their heyday All Saints notched up eight top 10 hits in the UK including the soundtrack anthem, Pure Shores from The Beach.

I suppose it's only fair to pop at least one joke into this kind of statement. I almost managed a snigger.

They'll be back soon enough.

They've got full rights to Studio 1 and they plan to release "Scar" :D

It seems they parted company with their record label, so they are not officially split, I reckon they will release material on their own record label, if they are intending to release any more singles of the album, or release them as download only, Koopa did not have a record deal, and they charted on downloads only.

These days you don't have to sell any singles physically to get into the single chart.

Mel has already dabbled with this. She set up an indie lable called 'Swollen Ankel' in order to release the "See Me" single (which bombed every bit as spectacularly as "Chick Fit"). As for releasing more tracks from "Studio 1" - that suggestion makes no sense. Regardless of the rights issue (which is a big issue in itself) all those tracks are already available on i-tunes and nobody is interested. The "Studio 1" project is dead, dead, dead. But if they really are interested in carrying on with new material released via their own indie lable it would be an interesting experiment that quite a few people might watch it with a mixture of interest and apprehension. Mel still has an unreleased solo album in the can. They can start with that.

Apparently AS will be promoting Studio 1 all over Europe soon (on a new record label, or by self funding - that is currently unknown) and will release a 3rd single, in the form of Scar.
Hopefully they will promote Studio 1 more, it is a fantastic album and it was a shame to see it bomb

I do actually really like 'Chick Fit' now :o And I loved 'Rock Steady' ^_^

It's a shame they didn't do well, obviously there's not a market for a new old girl group at the moment

What is your source for this incredible statement?

Quaoar: Mariane (the biggest All Saints fan ever lol, on the official forum) got told by KGee. Obviously its not a completely reliable statement but it would seem to me to be true, particularly as AS are a determined bunch of ladies who obviously know that with promo S1 has great potential.
Chick Fit was great, so hopefully they will get to release on an independent label.

The air-heads who post at the official forum don't have the slightest clue about anything. Shaz and Mel have demonstrated comprehensively that they are indeed 'determined ladies' and being willing to carry on via their own indie lable would be in keeping with that. The Appletons are just a couple of hangers-on in it for the fame and glory. That's always been part of the problem. It's never too late to change your ways, but Nic and Nat have left it very late in the day. S1 does not have 'great potential'. It's a comprehensive flop and is now past tense in all respects. However Shaz and Mel together may well still have the ability to produce great works of pop. It's just a 'watch this space' situation.

The appletons should get shazney to write a few good songs with their husbands... release a new single... it should do well and the re-release studio 1.
