this strange little comedienne turned her talents to music (before going to america and discovering 'the simpsons'...lol). in 83-4 she scored 6 hits all of which i thought were bloody decent! my fav was 'they dont know' (a cover????) which i rate very highly. her cover of doris days 'move over darling' was a cover that i rate higher then the original, thats rare!

anyone else a fan?

quite liked her a a singer, although it was brief. Preferred her as a comediene tbh.

You can see her comedic qualities in her vids . . . 'They Don't Know' also has a brief cameo by Paul McCartney at the end. Although I associate this song more with Kirsty McColl.

The Tracy Ullman track I remember most of all is 'Sunglasses' . . . ooo-ooh, to hide behind . . .

the show (the dvd has just been released if you want to see it again, it reviewed last month)

it was funny but no where near 'young ones' standard

most writers and talking heads just go on about the young ones and the comic strip when they are marveling about british comedy

I used to love this! Jeez I'd forgotten all about it. Back when French and Saunders were funny as a double act . . .

French, Saunders, Ullman and Wax were all at a really good stage in their careers when they made this imo. I might go and check this out.

Your posts are gonna cost me a fortune at this rate Tigerboy! Grrrrrrr

however at least my dvd mag subs were a good thing to buy

Though she was a half decent singer, most of her singles were covers.

My fave single of hers was SUNGLASSES. This was a cover of US singer Sandy Posey's 1968 country single.

Other covers:

Move Over Darlin' - Doris Day

Terry - Kirsty McColl

My Girl - Madness (My Guy)

As well as her huge hit, the cover of the sublime Kirsty MacColl classic - They Don't Know:

Tracey Ullman - Breakaway video (UK#4 1983) - If the Pipettes covered this they would have a huge hit single IMHO.

Tracey Ullman - Move Over Darling video (UK#8 1983) - her cover of the Doris Day standard.

Tracey Ullman - My Guy video (UK#23 1984) - I much prefer the Madness original.

Tracey Ullman - Sunglasses video (UK#18 1984) - How did this not go higher in the charts in the summer of 1984?

Tracey Ullman - Helpless video (UK#61 1984) - the dumper was beckoning.....

Tracey Ullman - Terry video (UK Flop (75+) 1985) - an inferior and less funny video of a Kirsty MacColl classic......

Kirsty MacColl - Terry video (UK#83 1984) - this very funny video features a young (one) Adrian Edmondson and Phil Cornwall.
