Posted March 8, 200718 yr what a bizarre list in this month's dinosaur bible.... At number one they have Elvis Presley  ? Also featured is flat-as-a-pancake Rufus Wainwright (ahem), LIAM GALLAGHER and Bono. WTF?! No mention of Annie Lennox or Alison Moyet.... two barmy omissions....
March 8, 200718 yr The list is a total joke. I am a huge Oasis fan, but to say Liam Gallagh is the 13th greatest singer in history is pure insanity. Bono I perfectly understand though. I could'nt believe it when I was reading the list, the order is completelly ridiuclous in so many ways. I dont have the mag with me as I gave it to my mate so I can't remember the full list, does anyone have it? I just remember laughing in disbelief at some of the acts and the order, Q have had many odd lists but this one is just plain silly. I did find it amusing that they labelled both Mariah and Celine as two of the worst singers of all time though and Ozzy at #1 worst
March 8, 200718 yr I only found the top 10 : The Top Ten 1. Elvis Presley From his debut release 'That's All Right' onwards, Presley put sex into rock and roll. Country, gospel and blues, he took them all in his stride 2. Aretha Franklin Said to have a four-octave range, soul star Franklin showed her prowess and power on hits such as 'Respect' and 'I Say a Little Prayer' 3. Frank Sinatra Renowned for his perfect delivery and phrasing on classics 'My Way' and 'I've Got You Under My Skin' 4. Otis Redding Fine versions of songs like 'Satisfaction', but loved for '(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay' 5. John Lennon Not technically brilliant, but expressive. 'Imagine' is regularly voted one of the all-time great songs 6. Marvin Gaye Shot dead by his father in 1984, the Motown star was said to have 'the voice of an angel trapped in a man' 7. Kurt Cobain Not exactly a beautiful voice but his anguished cries on Nirvana hits such as 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' launched a rock revolution in the early 1990s 8. Robert Plant As singer with Led Zeppelin, Plant and his feminine high register touched millions with 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Immigrant Song' 9. Mick Jagger Jagger's wicked rasp introduced Britons to rhythm and blues and is still going strong after more than 40 years 10. Jeff Buckley Was barely known during his lifetime, but his only completed studio album is now a classic, especially his version of 'Hallelujah'
March 8, 200718 yr As far as the top 10 goes, it is'nt as ridiculous as the rest of the countdown. Elvis may not have been a songwriter, but based on his voice he was great imo. Not the greatest of all time though. Mick Jagger top 10 is ridiculous though, I mean come on, his voice is in no way great
March 8, 200718 yr Author the only two genuinely worthy of a place in their top 100 were Cocteau Twin/Massive Attack vocalist Elizabeth Fraser (whose name they spell incorrectly) and the divine Kate Bush. But any 'greatest singer' list that omits both Annie Lennox AND Alison Moyet... is a joke, quite frankly. Still, Q is written (and mainly read) by 102-year old rock dinosaurs....
March 8, 200718 yr Tbh I'm surprised Jeff Buckley hasn't emulated the success of other post-humous singers, I know his albums a classic but it's never trouble the charts much has it?
March 8, 200718 yr Author I think the Jeff Buckley album has sold loads over a prolonged period, though, blade, as opposed to selling loads in a short space of time and charting high.... it's a classic album, and one of those ones no serious record collection is complete without, really. I love it.... but again, I wouldn't call him one of the best ever singers.... without being mean, I think he's there because he has death on his side...
March 8, 200718 yr 1. Elvis Presley - 2. Aretha Franklin - :o Didn't expect her to get THIS high, but awsome voice! 3. Frank Sinatra - Dont like this guy, tbh -_- 4. What a joke  No Ozzy is #1 WORST singer ever, along with Mariah and Celine  John Lennon clearly deserved to be there, Freddie being beaten by Liam Gallagher is just beyond words
March 8, 200718 yr No Ozzy is #1 WORST singer ever, along with Mariah and Celine  John Lennon clearly deserved to be there, Freddie being beaten by Liam Gallagher is just beyond words  Thats what I meant  Ozzy at #1 for Worst singer is a joke  Same with Mariah and Celine, they may not be rock, but they have amazing voices. -_- Freddie should of been top 5 at LEAST!
March 8, 200718 yr Thats what I meant  Ozzy at #1 for Worst singer is a joke  Same with Mariah and Celine, they may not be rock, but they have amazing voices. -_- Freddie should of been top 5 at LEAST! Oh God no not Freddie Mercury! I used to quite like Queen, but now they just remind me of chavviness, as they seem to have a random obsession with them. =\ Not the hardcore chavs, the borderline ones. Mariah and Celine worst voices?! That's a joke. -_- People like this assume anything but rock is $h!t. :manson:
March 8, 200718 yr but now they just remind me of chavviness, as they seem to have a random obsession with them. I renember watching a programme on tv about that ages ago and apparntly they where seen as very camp at the time.
March 8, 200718 yr People like this assume anything but rock is $h!t. :manson: That's why all of the top four aren't rock singers, then?
March 8, 200718 yr Listing Mariah and Celine as worst singers just shows how biased and crappy this magazine is.
March 8, 200718 yr Still, Q is written (and mainly read) by 102-year old rock dinosaurs.... so where does that leave mojo then
March 8, 200718 yr That's why all of the top four aren't rock singers, then? Oh absolutely. :D *Stands corrected* -_- I meant people from the pop/RnB scene really.
March 8, 200718 yr Listing Mariah and Celine as worst singers just shows how biased and crappy this magazine is. on the other hand the word magazine listed mariahs voice as being one of the worst musical instruments ever with bjork being one of the best.
