I was quite surprised by some of the inclusions in the Top 10 and some that weren't there. Seems to be based on opinions, although whose, I don't know  Have to say I certainly agree with the #1, of course  Elvis was not only a great singer, but a very versatile one too!!

elvis perkins or elvis costello that then???

however good to see that they based opinions over like 100 years of music culture rather than just people who sound like coldplay

10. Jeff Buckley

- Is he the guy that sung on Shrek? That Hallelujah song? If so, yeah, he has a nice voice. ^_^

Rufus wainwright did the shrek version...(I think...?). Jeff Buckley's version is better though.

That list is half understandable and half....

I double checked the list - no mention of Annie Lennox, either... how can ANY Best Singer list omit one of our finest voices? Ridiculous....

I'm having a hard time getting over what an utter joke this list is tbh.... ELVIS?????? Greatest Singer of All-Time????? Puh-leeeeeeeeeze.....

As much as I loved Nirvana, Kurt Cobain has absolutely NO business being anywhere near the Top 10.... Pixies' frontman Black Francis does that sort of Indie/Alt thing with far more style, clearly those pricks at Q never listened to "Surfer Rosa" or "Doolittle" did they when they were too busy wanking over their copies of "Nevermind" <_< ....? Ditto for the likes of Morrissey, Ian 'Mac' McCulloch, Robert Smith and Ian Curtis, all of whom I would place far, FAR above the likes of Cobain, Bono and Liam Gallagher. No mention of Michael Stipe either?????  WTF, the guy has a wonderful voice, even if I dont really like REM anymore....

Robert Plant...? Probably warranted, ditto for Aretha... But the fact that they have chosen to ignore the quite awesome and formidable vocal prowesses of some of today's Alternative and Metal crowd - eg Tool's Maynard James Keenan, Within Temptation's Sharon Den Adel, System of a Down's Serj Tankian, Lacuna Coil's Cristina Scabbia and HIM's Ville Vallo - just proves their utter pig-ignorance of the current musical scene....

Listing Mariah and Celine as worst singers just shows how biased and crappy this magazine is.

Shockingly, I actually agree with you... When judging something like this, surely a fair amount of the criteria is based upon technical ability, and not on however you feel about the actual material itself.... Mariah and Celine irritate and bore the hell out of me, but to say they are technically bad singers is entirely wrong......

Annie Lennox is one of my favourite Female Vocalists easily. its bizzare why she isnt included

Was Karen Carpenter included in the list?

  • Author

I'm not sure if Karen Carpenter was on there...

Michael Stipe is on the list, though, albeit low down. The most 'alt' they go is Elizabeth Fraser... and they even spell her bloody name incorrectly! :o

Email them your thoughts...I have ;-) Here's their address:

3 celine dion Her heart will go on. As do her songs. Though they would be somewhat shorter if she didn't grind out every note as if bearing some kind of grudge against the very notion of economy.

Dear lord, it is such a joke of a list. Certainly not based on actual vocal ability that's for sure. I mean Bob Dylan - #18? Sure he is definatly one of the best song-writers ever and most influential but as a singer he is nothing amazing by any means imo.

And again, Liam Gallagher should not be on the list.

the inclusion that makes me laugh is Nico.... :o

I agree with where Fred Durst is

thats pretty much all I agree with except for maybe Jeff Buckley :P (as in I thnk hes where he belongs on the list)

Celine Dion... with Annie who?

Allow me to be the bearer of bad news...

Annie Lennox Readies 4th Solo Album

Undercover.com

by Paul Cashmere - March 16 2007

Annie Lennox has wrapped up work on her 4th studio album in Miami with producer Tom Lord-Alge.

The yet-to-be titled album will be released in August.

The album promises to be a return to pop for the Eurythmics singer. Special guests include Celine Dion, Kelis, Pink and Mary J. Blige.

Annie's last studio album Bare came 8 years after the previous album 'Medusa'. 'Bare' was released in 2003.

Eurythmics last studio album was 1999's 'Peace'.

Any Comments?

I am excited to see her return to what appears to be a more mainstream pop album, though I just cannot get my head around the Celine Dion duet... their voices don't go together at all... maybe if Celine can restrain herself and Annie sings really loudly, she can keep up.

Annie Lennox killed off any credibility she may have had left with the pitiful 'Peace' album... and 'Bare' was excruciating, from the hideous artwork in...

She seems to be mentally fragile, too.... well, let's be honest, she MUST be to do a duet with Saline..... I mean, WHO is she thinking this will appeal to? Her fans will balk at this.... and after this news... consider me a very serious EX fan.
