Famously named to ensure they would be the last act in record shops and hit books.

Although formed in 1969, it took the video age of the early 80's before they had any commercial success. Hits like Gimme all your lovin, sharp dressed man, legs and sleeping bag. 2 massive albums Eliminator and Afterburner charted in the top 3 for weeks.

Would they have been as successful without the leggy girls and the "car" in their videos?

Have to say that their version of Viva Las Vegas is one Elvis cover I love

Much as I loved em I have to say without the vids they would never have had any hits over here. I think it was only after they were shown altogether on some Rock Around the Clock BBC 2 thing that they started to sell. Loved Eliminator and I still dig it out sometimes but Afterburner was a bit c**p tbh.
I love ZZ Top, have most of their albums, Tush and She Loves My Automobile are brilliant songs for instance, they are just never taken seriously by purists because of their beards

 I only know what's charted over the years, but when I think of ZZ Top I immediately think of 'all the members of ZZ Top have beards, about from the one whose last name is Beard'!!! Is this correct? I can't even remember where I heard it but it is lodged in my brain as a fact!

only problem, what about Dutch band zZz and why is ZZ top the last act in the hits book when it is Zee Zee Top rather than zeeeeeeeeeeee top? esp when TLC comes before Talking Heads????

its just one step away from a PT cruiser, so i'll stick with a DS

until that dutch group have a uk hit, zz top will be the last in the book!

but the book goes A, ABC, AB's, AC/DC, A.D.A.M., AFI, AFX, AKA, a1 etc then goes to ABBA, ABBACADBRA, Russ ABBOT, Gregory ABBOT, arent they wrong not to have the Z section go Z FACTOR, Z2, ZZ TOP, Helmet Zacharias, Pia Zandora, Zager and Evans (in the year 2525) etc etc???
