No :o They might win  (Or at least do well  )
They can't enter, they're banned until 2009 for being disqualified in 2005 for refusing to show the Israeli entry. They aren't gonna have anything to do with the contest as long as Israel are in there -_-

Really? I didn't know that. Another example of politics interfering with Eurovision, it's MEANT to be a competition

It's against Lebanese law to show or broadcast anything which acknowledges Israel's existence as an independent state, and the EBU says that to enter all entries must be shown on the national TV station. In 1980 an Arab country (I think it might have actually been Lebanon again) broadcasted the ESC and when the Israeli entry was shown they stopped the broadcast and showed flowers instead  (They could do that as they weren't entering that year) And when it became painfully apparent that Israel would win they pulled the broadcast completely and announced Belgium as the winners (when they finished 2nd in the actual thing)

Really? And it's against the law?! How petty

What does Lebanon have to do with Israel anyway?

Why don't they want to acknowledge israel as an independent state? it is rather pointless? and has nothing to do with them? it is only a piece of land :S and how stupid to say belgium won and ha! he was born there! i knew he was overly accentated when he sings certain words etc

Don't you remember last summer there was a war with Hezbollah? I dunno what triggered it all tbh myself but they've been at war for YEARS. -_-

Well, andre said that he was born there, so that might be why.

Well, they're at war with Palestine seeing as the land given to Israel conveniently belonged to Palestine, so they basically just got their land pinched and given to the 'infidel', so they have an excuse to be at war with them

The rest of the Arab nations just jumped on the bandwagon with hating Israel though, in support of Palestine. There's no real need for a Jewish state so I can see why they're so angry

Basically, God made jews to walk the world alone, without a country because of what they did to jesus...

and they went to Lebanon, and took over their country, like Israeli's coming here and saying 'we want half of your country' when the rightful owners of the country are the Lebanese people. But they're shown as the baddies

The Eurovision has ALWAYS been political, countries still obviously vote for their allies and blatantly ignore the best entry if it's from a country they've had any kind of clash with. And Terry Wogan doing his crazy commentary and trying to be diplomatic about it

This is a really good thread. It's the first time I have EVER seen an interesting and informed discussion as a result of an article in The Sun!

oh, and GO MIKA! :cheer:

Absolutely hilarious

What a great post Tyron, how did you know that information?

You can just imagine it, the family sat down to watch eurovision and they the TV cuts to show flowers, then on the giant scoreboard what happens there ... a blank part. Then when the scores summary are read out. In the first position we have ....blank.... and second we have Belguim. O the winners are Belguim. TV flips to commercial break and nothing else is shown.

Kinda scary though too, that level of mass propaganda - like something out of Animal Farm or 1984 :o
