Words just cannot begin to express how c**p this film is likely to be..... When you see the tagline "From the Producers of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake) and The Amityville Horror (remake)", then you just know it's gonna suck dogsh!t... And getting Sean Bean as the stand-in for the legendary Rutger Hauer just is NOT the road to go down. At all..... Really only one step up from Craig Fairbrass or Jason Statham innit...? Typical Hollywood thinking really - British accent automatically equals sinister psycho..... <_< If they really HAD to get a Brit actor to do it, why the hell not Sean Pertwee, Jason Isaacs or Gary Oldman ffs...? Any one of those could do an infinitely more believable psycho... And just who is the kid taking the C Thomas Howell role...? And I dont like the idea of having the guy and the girl be an item from the get-go, one of the best things about the original was that for about the first half of the film Howell was totally alone with the psycho, and it was quite a marvellously tense, claustrophobic set-up, and it made the concept of John Ryder (Hauer's character) setting him up as the fall-guy much more believable... A lone psycho is not going to target a couple to pin the blame on for his crimes.... HUGE, GAPING plot hole.....

But ultimately though, just what is the bloody point in remaking this one...? It's not even as if it's that old a film anyway (made in 1986 I do believe...)

Another re-make mistake. Why bother? Any tricks of the trade Hollywood could possibly thow at this won't go anywhere near touching the original.

Hitcher scared the pants off me when I was a kid.

i guess its easy and they have an already defined market demographic to sludge it out to. i suppose they know the auds will fill up all the theatres where all the pics prints come out first weekend.

suppose if your viewing it against something like Un chien andalou (from 1929) then it seems a newer film but when you think that something like scream which was made years and years ago. a 1986 will be years and years and years and years ago. i guess.

its on itv4 next wednesday about 10pm (not film4 this time like it had been et the end of last year)

btw look in the sun as it might be the free film tomorrow

I was agreeing with you Alex... :)

I still dont really see how mid-80s can really be all that long ago... When I was growing up in the 80s I would routinely watch loads of films from the 60s and 70s. Was never an issue for me...

I doubt I could bring myself to buy The Sun even for a free film.

I guess I could pay for the paper and just leave it on the counter and take the DVD

It might still scare the pants off me tho

it's shocking they'd even admit it's the same people who made the disastrous Texas Chainsaw remake!

Like it's something to be proud of? :o

The Hitcher is a wonderful movie - it doesn't need to be re-made one little bit. Plus, as Scott says... Sean Bean?!?!?!? He couldn't act his way out of a paper bag!

I'm embarrased to say I REALLY want to see it

and you've seen the original, yes? If you haven't - watch that first - absolutely.

The original is absolute genius.

The remake just looks like it's gonna be like all other modern remakes. Full of cheap scares and more gore.

You can watch it at allusee. My friend watched and said it's not as bad as it could've been.

The original was such an amazing film. Why do they always have to ruin films when they remake them?

Has anyone on here actually bothered to even see this?

I downloaded it... It's a piece of sh!t, practically zero tension at all. Mainly cos Sean Bean just seems bored rather than actually psychotic.... Rutger Hauer gave you the impression that he really was the "angel of death", Sean Bean just gives you the impression that he'd rather be in another film tbh..... And having a couple from the start rather than a lone person makes the whole thing seem utterly ridiculous because you just dont get that same claustrophobic sense of it being one person against a force of evil for the first half...
