It's become quite a common thing for a single to be listed twice in the midweeks before being combined by the end of the week. I think one of the reasons is that , in the midweeks, a download from the album may be counted separately from a purchase (or download) of the single. They will be combined by Sunday so, fingers crossed, they could yet make it to the top.

Well I hope so, and everyone that i've spoken to seems to mention the same thing's happened, I spoke to David from here and he said the same thing happened to Gwen? And they didn't list them combined at the end of the week or something?

Whether this will make #1 i'm not sure. Yes Arctic Monkeys are fan-based based, but this is far more commercial than any other single they've put out and it's got more wide spread appeal so I know a lot of people are expecting it to fall but I dunno, I think it might be more stable and it's downloads have definitley increased but there's a big gap in downloads between Rihanna and Fergie and then the AM, another thing that I suspect may be letting it down on physicals is the fact it's £2.99...

It may, but I doubt it. :(

I'd like to see a midweek update though, I think it'd be interesting, but if the gap's widened from over 1000 now then I think AM have no chance whatsoever of getting #1. :(

it could be close ;) but 2 is still great :yahoo:

Yeah it really is good, I mean not many indie bands have huge 2nd singles. The only one I can maybe think of is Razorlight and that got a lot better TV airplay and general radio airplay than FA I think, most indie bands don't tend to do that well if their follow ups, I mean look at The Killers, Kasabian etc etc.

To put all this into some sort of context, The Killers have had just 3 Top 10 UK singles and no number 1s (out of 7 releases). The second single from Sam's Town reached 15 in the UK singles chart. Nuff said.

That's the way I look at it as well tbh and FA is the first single that really stands the test of being a single. It's the first single they've released when you can't already buy the album, unlike all their other singles which were all released before their album or were stand alone singles.

Have a guess how many top 10 UK singles superstar Sting has had over the years? No cheating, lol.

OK, silly question. Answer = 1!

Only 1? :o

I mean as much as I want FA to go to #1 the main thing is that it helps the album (which it seems to be doing) as that's what counts at the end of the day. It's nice to boast about good single sales, but album sales is what the record companies care about mainly.

its not only about #1...its more like to see that year a #1 song that i really like..

dream:it can be their wonderwall...

An update's come in.

Arctic Monkeys are still #2 and are on 8k but are about 1.5k away from Rihanna and Fergie's closing in on AM now so I supsect they'll fall to #3 at least (maybe even lower) by Sunday.

Following their barnstorming headline slot on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury last month, Sheffield indie sensations the Arctic Monkeys release 'Fluorescent Adolescent', the second single from the number one album Favourite Worst Nightmare.

The lyrics mix British seaside humour with sweeping chorus lines, while the tune is a blend of dizzying drums and bouncing bass lines. Reminiscent of fan favourite 'Mardy Bum' from their debut LP Whatever People Say I am, That's What I'm Not, the single is essentially a pop tune with a few cheeky euphemisms about "Mecca Dobbers" and "fishnets" thrown in for good measure.

Turner's idiosyncratic vocals curve beautifully around the wistful cry: "Falling about / You took a left off last laugh lane / You just sounded it out / You're not coming back again," that closes the track as it fades. You can almost hear the tune being bellowed back by thousands of raucous fans at jam-packed arenas already.

4/5

Nice little review of the single there. ^_^

btw , already 7 wks in the charts , FA sold enough copies (download alone) n imo that s the reason for the missing #1...whatever...still a great/classic single that will spend many weeks in the charts

(Jumps off nearest cliff.)

Well it was inevitable, it's looked that way for the past couple of days and then Fergie's finally over taken the Arctics. I think Timbaland might over take them as well come Sunday but we'll just see I guess. Still as long as it goes Top5 i'll be happy as it'll mean all of their singles avaliable so far have gone Top5. ^_^

Fergie is a f***ing bint :arrr: She isnt even slighty attractive either. I dont get her :(

Oh well, Top 5 is still fantastic :D

I don't get her new single either, but some people must be. And like you say Top5 is great. ^_^ It'll mean 5 Top5 singles with their first 5 releases and i'd be suprised if many artists/bands could hold the same record as that at the moment. ^_^

McFly. (gets serious about finding nearest cliff :w00t: )

You're right there, but I think aside from McFly and post 2000 I think Arctic Monkeys are the only one's and McFly have only got some many #1s because of all their promotion things where they get teenage girls to part with their pocket money. :(
