So who does everyone think is the greatest Director ever? My personal favourite is definatly Steven Spielberg, along with Hitchcock, Scorsese, Tarantino, Kubrick, Oliver Stone etc. ^_^

Scorcese by a country mile for me but love the Tarantino movies and a couple of the Oliver Stone ones and Full Metal Jacket and The Shining by Kubrick, I would also include James Cameron and Ridley Scott though to the list

A decade or so ago, I'd've said Scorcese too, but he has tarnished his good name and reputation recently - "Gangs of New York" was rubbish, "The Aviator" was incredibly boring and banal, "Bringing Out The Dead" was pointless, "Age of Innocence" was DUUUUUULLLLLL as fukk, and even "The Departed" aint that great on a second viewing, like somebody getting all the ingredients for a Classic bit of Scorcese right, but the actual cooking process goes a bit wrong... The days of "Taxi Driver", "Goodfellas", "Casino" and "Raging Bull" seem far behind him....

As for Ridley Scott.... Well, he sure traded on the whole "Alien" and "Bladerunner" thing for a long time, and while those are absolutely miraculous films, really, can one honestly say anything he's done in the past 15 years or so can really match up to his first early films...?

David Lynch has never made a bad film, even the 'weaker' ones like "The Straight Story" or "Dune" have something about them to hold your interest.... When he's on his game though, there really is no one who can match him - "Blue Velvet" and "Mulholland Drive" ARE two of the greatest films ever committed to celluloid and "Twin Peaks" remains one of my favourite TV shows of all time, the likes of "X-Files" and "Desperate Housewives", while very good, are but watered-down versions of this incredible, ground-breaking series...

Some other faves of mine - Miike Takashi, Takeshi Kitano, Akira Kurosawa, Park Chan Wook, David Cronenberg, Danny Boyle, Ken Loach, Mike Leigh, Spike Lee, Michael Haneke, Mamuro Oshii, Dario Argento, George Romero, Lars Von Trier, John Woo (mainly the Hong Kong films though)....

Kubrick (despite his final film being so ghastly), John Waters, Robert Aldrich, Ken Loach, Peter Greenaway, Tim Burton and Leigh for me....

Gondry and Aronofsky has both amazed me time and time again, even though they have made few movies. The future looks bright.
