Posted March 21, 200718 yr Elton John catalogue arrives on iTunes 21 March 2007 - 11:49:12 Source: MW Sir Elton John’s career-spanning catalogue of more than 30 albums is to be made available for digital download worldwide from March 26. The event coincides with the global release in physical and digital formats of a Mercury-issued 18-track compilation entitled Rocket Man – The Definitive Hits. Several of Elton’s biggest hits will also be released as mobile-phone realtones at the same time. In addition, a selection of his video clips - including I’m Still Standing and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart - will be issued commercially through digital music services. The move also represents another major benchmark for Apple's iTunes Music Store, which is now lacking only a few back-catalogues - such as The Beatles' and Radiohead's - from the biggest recording artists of the Twentieth century. “I’ve wanted my music to be available for digital download worldwide for some time, but I knew that the entire catalogue – not just the hits – needed care and attention to be released in this way,†says Elton. “Now that it’s happening, I’m pleased for the fans’ sake. The world has certainly changed since Philips Records issued my first single on seven-inch vinyl – 39 years ago this month.†Sir Elton’s four-decade catalogue will be available exclusively from iTunes from March 26 to April 30, after which it will be available through other retailers as well. The digital catalogue comprises more than 400 tracks, including some previously only issued as singles.
March 21, 200718 yr About time. I'm also aware of the rumours about Metallica's back-catalogue becoming available to digital downloads online in time for their short World-wide tour in early summer.
