May 20, 200718 yr I still can't believe he's been dropped. He's by far the most successful and the hottest to come from Blue. He must be worth holding on to in more ways than one!
May 20, 200718 yr I don't believe he has been dropped. His official website is still live and being updated, he is embarking upon a tour very shortly. His first album sold 700,000 copies, slowly, it never reached a particularly high chart position and didn't really get going until 'No Worries' and 'After All This Time'. His second was released in December I believe, and just got buried amongst all the other things crowding the charts, according to wikipedia it's sold about 90,000 copies so far in the UK, although figures for other countries are unknown, and Simon has always done very well abroad. It is true that the second single taken from 'Grace', 'My Soul Pleads For You', did poorly, no.45 is unacceptable, but promo was lacklustre, the song wasn't commercial, the radio edit was atrocious, the video was horrible and it got no airplay. A masterclass in bad management. His singles performance has never been very strong, so far his releases have gone 4 (Lay Your Hands) 4 (No Worries) 16 (After All This Time) 12 (Coming Around Again) and 45 (My Soul pleads For You). On the 18th of June he is releasing a track taken from the soundtrack of the new fantastic 4 film 'Ride The Storm' as a double A-side with 'Grace', undoubtedly the best song on the album, as good as No Worries IMHO. Promo is starting soon, he's done a few radio interviews recently to promote the tour, then there's the National Lottery appearance on the 30th, I believe his album is being re-released soon with some extra tracks/better cover art/more promo perhaps. His record label is 'Innocent' which is a bit of a strange offshoot of EMI, he appears to be their only artist with any level of success. The reason all his stuff sounds the same is because almost exactly the same writing team (him, Tim Woodcock [ben Mills - Beside You] and Matt Prime [sophie Ellis-Bextor - Me and My Imagination, Will Young - Free] were used for both albums. I hope he comes back and shifts enough albums to warrant a third, he's certainly better than bloody Lemar. Edited May 20, 200718 yr by threepiecesuit
May 20, 200718 yr the fantastic four track has to be really good that appeals to the wider public not just to his fanbase. its going to have high exposure cause its linked with the film so he has that going for him but judging by his last single performance he popularity is going down, his last single was promoted on TV i saw him a few times but that big tv audience wasn't interested its the same situation with gareth. he will need some really healthy sales with the re-release otherwise he would have lost money for his record company and they would have to drop him unless they like burning money

MSPFY, was destined to bomb with no promo, I was gutted when it only reached a poor, poor 45 but I expected it as Id seen nothing of him to sell it, and if I was not a firm fan of his already I wouldnt have known or cared about it. & although I didnt mind the edit of the song, I didnt like the fact it cut it about 40 secs short, esp as I think the album version finishes off rather beautifully. Cant wait for Grace though. Its the most listened song on my Itunes but Im no where near to tiring of it. Its so uplifting and I anticipate it to be on the same level of 'No worries', I just think it has a univeral appeal. Im hoping combined with a Killer theme tune for Fantastic 4 (which Im dying to hear) this could and hopefully should remake Simon, bringing him back on track and shift a few more copies of 'Grace' I couldnt think of anything better than for these to turn his fortunes, even greater than Sanctuary. (Most probably won't, but hey a girl can hope) I like Lemar, but after his first few singles, Ive tired of his songs. I like the bloke though, he seems quite charming. I hope in the future Simon can release another album, but I'd recommend he leave it longer than the year between 'Sanctuary' and 'Grace's release.
May 21, 200718 yr Well, he did reach #1 in Germany, so he's gotta be safe. Actually didnt know that. That's quite impressive.
