Chartifacts

Silverchair's "Straight Lines" stays atop the Australian charts for a second

week, whilst also retaining the No.1 position for a fourth week at the top of

the Download Singles Chart. This very day (25th March, 1967) was the date that

The Seekers had their third No.1 single in Australia when for a single week

"Georgy Girl" topped the charts, since that time no other Australian GROUP has

topped the charts with a third single. The Mixtures, Sherbet, Skyhooks, Euphoria

and Savage Garden all had two chart toppers, but couldn't attain a third. But

last week Silverchair joined The Easybeats with three No.1's. Those No.1's for

each group were...

The Easybeats The Seekers

Silverchair

20-Aug-66 - 2 wks - Easyfever (EP) 13-Mar-65 - 3 wks - I'll Never

Find Another You 30-Oct-94 - 6 wks - Tomorrow

26-Nov-66 - 1 wk - Sorry 4-Dec-65 - 6 wks - The

Carnival is Over 26-Jan-97 - 2 wks - Freak

24-Dec-66 - 2 wks - Friday on My Mind 25-Mar-67 - 1 wk - Georgy Girl

18-Mar-07 - 2 wks - Straight Lines

The highest new entry on the charts comes in at No.3 this week, and gives

Justin Timberlake an Akon style chart feat, in that he has three singles in the

Top 40 at the one time. Although Justin outdoes Akon in that all three singles

for JT are accredited to him, whilst Akon has two singles from his Konvicted

album, and is guest vocalist on the No.2 single "The Sweet Escape" by Gwen

Stefani. So Justin's third single from his former No.1 album "Future Sex/Love

Sounds" (No.7 this week), "What Goes Around... Comes Around" gives him three Top

3 singles from that album, as the previous two "My Love" (No.30 this week)

reached No.3 in December and "SexyBack" (No.35 this week) hit No.1 last August.

He might make a new chart record soon when his teaming with Nelly Furtado on

Timbaland's upcoming single "Give it to Me" which is released April 9th.

The second Top 10 debut comes in at No.10, and gives thus gives Thirsty Merc

their first Top 10 single. They've previously had five Top 50 singles, and this

new track "20 Good Reasons" is taken from their forthcoming second album

"Slideshows". They had their first chart hit back in April 2004 with the No.37

single "Emancipate Yourself", then in July they went to No.26 with "My

Completeness", and then they took "Someday, Someday" to No.19 which at the time

was their biggest hit. They had two more Top 50 singles with "In the Summertime"

(No.43) in April 2005 and "When the Weather is Fine" (No.46) in August 2005.

During the whole of March 2006, one song was at No.1 here in Australia,

"Flaunt it" by TV Rock. This week they debut with their third single which is

currently at No.1 on the Dance Charts, "The Others" which is a "vs" with The

Dukes of Windsor. The track was originally a Dukes of Windsor track that TV Rock

remixed and made their own, thus the "vs".

At No.25 is the tenth Top 50 single for actress and singer Hilary Duff. She

first hit the charts in June 2003 with the No.14 single "Why Not", and has since

had two Top 10 singles with the September 2003 track "So Yesterday" and the duet

with her sister Hilary from September 2004 "Our Lips are Sealed". Her last chart

appearance was back in December 2005 with the No.13 single "Beat of My Heart.

Right behind Hilary at No.26 is the chart debut for Geneva, New York natives

Gym Class Heroes and their single "Gym Class Heroes". They are signed to Fall

Out Boy Peter Wentz's label Decaydance, and this remixed version appears on

their second album "As Cruel as School Children". In case you didn't know, the

song sampled in this track is Supertramp's "Breakfast in America".

The sixth and final debut to the Top 50 this week is from Australia's Young

Diva's and their version of the No.17 1984 single "Searchin'" which was

originally done by Hazell Dean.

Hinder retain the No.1 album in the country with "Extreme Behavior", whilst

Gwen Stefani's "The Sweet Escape" album jumps from 10-5-2 over the past three

weeks, thus bringing her closer to the No.1 peak where her first album "Love,

Angel, Music, Baby" debuted in February 2005.

In October 2004 Good Charlotte's second album "The Chronicles of Life &

Death" debuted in the No.1 position, now this week they have the highest new

entry on the albums chart with their third album "Good Morning Revival" at No.5.

This album features the former No.5 single "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl" (No.11

this week).

Right behind them at No.6 is the new album by Hillsong Church, "All of the

Above", and they too had a No.1 album in 2004 with "For All You've Done" during

July.

The second album for Modest Mouse debuts at No.12 this week entitled "We

Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank", which is the follow-up to their 2004 album

"Good News for People Who Love Bad News".

Joss Stone's new album "Introducing Joss Stone" comes in at No.15 this week,

and is the follow-up to her 2004 album "Mind, Body and Soul" which hit No.7 in

October of that year. She has a new single out next week called "Tell Me 'Bout

it" and she will be here in early April for a single show and a promo tour.

Last week Mika debuted at No.6 with his debut single "Grace Kelly" (No.4

this week), and that songs parent album "Life in Cartoon Motion" enters the

charts this week at No.18, a former UK No.1 album.
