I just read somewhere that Daz's (low amount of) points from last year came from 10 different countries whereas other countries who were a lot higher in the voting (Macedonia, Croatia) only got points from 3, 4 or 5 different countries meaning that Daz was a more popular song across Europe but Macedonia and Croatia had friendly neighbourly donations of big points...

I wonder how different the contest would look if it was based on total number of votes across Europe and not regional point giving?

I can see Croatia and Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia etc...never coming in the bottom 5 again now but always finishing 12th/13th unless its an exceptional song (Leijla/Lane Moje for example) which can get points for the merit of the song too

My mistake, Macedonia had points from 9 countries, Croatia had 8 and Denmark only 5...all finished ahead of the UK who got voted for by 10 countries :o

UK always gets points from the same countries (as do all other countries of course):

Malta, Cyprus, Ireland, Poland and the Baltic block...I wonder why they like us more than other countries?

Malta and Cyprus because of the Commonwealth, not sure about Poland or the Baltics though!

There are a lot of Poles here aren't there...perhaps they have fond family members back home!

we were voting u before when u used to send much better songs just try 1998 or 2002!!!!

there's no way on ESC a country to win just based on political or block voting as you said just take a look @ all of the winners they all had something special and almost every country participating gave them points !!! u don't have to look to much back than 2006!!! Lordi were a perfect example ^_^

True, true...but it does push some undeserved countries further up the rankings...Macedonia and Croatia had great songs last year so I'm not annoyed about them but did Denmark's awful Twist song really deserve to be higher than Daz Sampson

well Denmark won only points by csandinavian countries I guess :)

Exactly, she should have got nil points for that tat...

as denmark is mentioned i think denmark and uk have very similar style songs this year and onlyone of them will get the pop camp vote but who i dont know,

Its very catchy though and could get the camp vote in the semis, Bosnia Herzegovina had Deen's In The Disco not so long ago

Russia's 2005 entry is a good example of neighbourly voting - ALL of their votes came from neighbours and they managed to get 57 points. -_-

Lithuania: 7

Belarus: 12

Estonia: 7

Finland: 7

Moldova: 10

Ukraine: 4

Latvia: 10

-_-

I'd personally like the uk to participate in the eurovision song contest as, England, Wales, Scotland And Northern Island, they are all countries so it is very fair and then would make other countries think twice about voiting for their neighbours eg RUSSIAN ex countries.... the winning songs by latvia and estonia should have never of won.
Oh no I'd hate it as England, Scotland, Wales and NI tbh. :( I don't think it'd be allowed anyway as they are only constituent countries of one country, and aren't separate members of the EBU. Unless we do a Serbia & Montenegro and declare full independance, which is exteremely unlikely, we'll be entering as the United Kingdom. :heehee:

Well we'd finish really high all the time

Scotland and Wales would NEVER vote for England.
