Albania: Frederik Ndoci–Hear My Plea

Albania had an incredible start to their ESC career in 2004 with the brilliant Anjeza Shahini's The Image Of You which finished 7th...they did less well in 2005 and almost qualified with a mediocre song last year so they clearly have some countries that like them. Hear My Plea is one of the favourites to come last and it is truly awful...The singer is atrocious and the song is cliched with awful lyrics...It won't qualify for the sheer volume of countries in the semi but it could do better than expected...

Semi-Final prediction: 15-20

Final Prediction: (if it makes it) 13-18

Bosnia-Herzegovina: Marija Sestic-Rijeka Bez Imena

A country that came third last year with the big ethnic ballad Lejla by Hari Mata Hari...This is another sweeping ethnic ballad but far inferior to last year's entry, though I personally preferred their fun 2005 entry Call Me. I can't see this doing amazingly well as the big points for the Balkan ballad will go to the other Marija from Serbia. A poor entry which isn't particularly memorable even after quite a few listens but neighbourly voting might push it to just outside the top 10...

Semi-Final prediction: Already Qualified

Croatia: Dragonfly f/ Dado Topic-Vjerujem u ljubav

Clearly not a vintage year for most of the Balkans...Croatia have been on top form in recent years with excellent songs by Claudia Beni, Vesna Pisarovic and Severina, though they haven't finished in the top 10 since 2001...This song is unlikely to change that and I wouldn't personally put money on it qualifying either because it is quite simply atrocious, unmemorable outdated Croatian dad-rock and in my opinion one of the 5 really awful songs in the contest...

Poland: The Jet Set-Time to Party

Poland next who have finished 11th in the semi-final for the last two years with the rather excellent Follow My Heart last year by Ich Troje who provided their only good recent result in 2003 with Ich Troje...they really should benefit more from political voting but in all honesty they rarely send good songs...This pop-rap song which sounds like something dodgy from the late 90's...like T-Spoon who did Sex on the Beach to be precise...doesn't sound like a qualifier to me but isn't an awful song compared to some others...

Woohoo about time David lol! I'm surprised you like that Croatian song...its a real album ruiner for me...I'm glad its the last track as I can just put disc 2 on after Greece and forget that the Croatian song exists lol...
It's really grown on me in the past week or so. I still don't think it'll qualify though. :(
I don't see why people hate Croatian song so much. There's far worse for me.
Portugal: Sabrina: Danca Conmigo

Portugal now, a country who have always been unlucky in the Eurovison despite usually sticking to their own language...they've had a couple of underrated entries this decade, MTM in 2001, Rita Guerra in 2003 and 2B in 2005 were all good. Sabrina sings this uptempo fun summer song which is more acceptable than the Norwegian entry as Portugal is actually hot. Unfortunately it is not as good as the Norwegian effort and will probably go unnoticed, particularly if there is no accompnaying stage show...

You're probably the only one who likes Portugal 2001. That the was the lamest Portuguese entry ever, it only got points through diaspora (France) and neighbouring (Spain).

So far of what I've heard, Sabrina will have a pair of dancers like in the national final and the backing singers will do some effects with red and gold fans.

I thought that the MTM song was very memorable...I liked a huge amount of the songs in the 2001 contest...I have a friend who has close connections with Portugal and he was obsessed with Rita in 2003 and I started to see the attraction of that song too ^_^

Montenegro: Steven Faddy-Hajde Kroci

What is it with all the really bad 'rock' songs this year...thanks a lot Lordi...Montenegro, along with Serbia, had success together in 2004 and 2005 but its Serbia who have the momentum this year. Steven Faddy sings the worst song in the contest which is not at all memorable, has a really dated air guitar sound to it and sounds like the soundtrack to a bad racing game. Hopefully neighbourly voting will not push this up to any great height, it deserves to come last...

Turkey: Kenan Dogulu-Shake It Up Sekerim

A country that is liked around Europe despite only part of it actually being in Europe...The Turkish sounds gave them a winner in 2003, top 5 in 2004 and Superstar last year...Kenan Dogulu is a bit more of a contemporary sound for the Turks blending an electro-pop introduction and bassline with traditional Turkish sounds and a bit of R & B flava in there too...Hugely underrated with the bookies I feel at 40/1 (William Hill), this could easily be top 10 in the final even if I don't love the song myself...

Israel: Teapacks-Push The Button

A country that is not actually in Europe now but part of the EBU, Israel have done very well in the past, their most recent success being the excellent Shiri Maymon in 2005...They went gospel last year and that was appalling and had no success...This year they have gone controversial with a song about terrorists amongst other things...An odd song musically as well as lyrically, a tempo change in the middle sees some Hebrew singing over a UK garage sounding beat before it goes back to the novelty sound...odd!

Semi-Final prediction: 10-15

Final Prediction: (if it makes it) 6-10

Denmark: DQ-Drama Queen

Another drag queen now, though this one is not qualified...if it did manage to qualify and was drawn near the Ukraine, that could be interesting as surely only one would do well...while Ukraine's entry is funnier, this is a more complete pop song from the Danes and far better than their awful twist-themed song from last year which only picked up votes from Scandanavia...this song will have a wider appeal but whether it will make it to the final or not is another matter...
