May 30, 200718 yr lovely pictures, I hope he hasnt hurt himself too much, its one think doing that stuff for a short while..but he has got to keep repeating it every night, and once your back tightens..glad to hear he was fantastic- how could he be anything but!!!
May 30, 200718 yr I haven't seen Nina for ages. I'll keep an eye out for her today. Poor Darius. That was hard luck, hurting his back yesterday of all days. Did it show in his performance/routines? BTW Is it easy to find the stage door? Sorry I missed this but it is dead easy to find (I know Im to late for BT but HAVE A GREAT TIME)
May 31, 200718 yr Home. Refreshed, rested, fed and watered but still a bit tired. Worth the effort in every way though. I was lucky. My ticket just said Liverpool stations to Glasgow.. Route- Preston. Thanks to helpful staff at Lime Street, I was in time to change my route and catch the earlier train from Preston instead of Manchester. It meant I didn't have a reserved seat, but frankly I'd a good choice in fact, and I had to get a taxi here in Glasgow but that was a dawdle. Sorry to disappoint you, Preston but I don't have any photos. Even the extremely patient Darius was desperately amused and gave me his opinion. He thought it might be on a timer. Who knows, he might even be right. I don't remember setting it as such, but there may be some setting I need to cancel. I'm going to try to find the manual and go right back to the beginning and see if I can get the dashed thing to focus better and take the picture faster. If not, I'll have to keep that camera for still life photography and buy another for action pictures and portraits. Fortunately there were quite a few people there who are much better photographers. I thought Darius was looking particularly well, younger than ever, when he was in mufti. His hair was really curly when he arrived. It's a shame they slick it back almost to Chicago severity. May 31, 200718 yr when you have an hour to spare, I owuld love to hear how the dancing went, etc..how was he received, well every detail really! what a shame about your camera, that is the sort of luck I have, how annoying, thank good there are so many gifted photographers amongst us, I know even if my camera worked I usally cocked up the picture anyway.
May 31, 200718 yr Sorry. I posted that in the wrong thread. I edited it with a longer post about my relief about the dancing but it didn't work. I'm glad I managed to go this early and see the dancing for myself. It was my only concern. I know Darius is a hard worker and he'll keep at it until he does his best and the evidence from Chicago was that Darius is proficient in movement but at the back of my mind, I think, still lurked that (shudder!) Janet Jackson Popstars choreography and PI Crazy Legs. I knew he'd have to be involved in proper choreography for Guys and Dolls and running down the lengthycredits for the ensemble in the programme beforehand did nothing to calm me. This is way, way advanced compared to anything Darius has ever done before. for a good part of the Havana scene, he has to do almost the exact same routine as the professionals and he's so good, he's virtually undistinguishable from them. It has to be a strain on him though, because he's far taller than any of them, in order to keep the visual lines, he has to dance with his knees bent for much of it. Also that last snog where the girl in red has him bent backwards a foot from the floor and he's gesticulating to her boyfriend with one hand trying to tell him he's innocent, must cause him a good bit of discomfort. It's an awkward position and seems to be held for quite a while. That said, I saw no sign at all that Darius's back was still troubling him.
May 31, 200718 yr sounds fantastic!!!!! it was the dancing that was worrying me too, l recalled the pop idol dancing when someone was saying he was finding it difficult, .. so its always stuck in my head that he was too tall to dance I just hope that the right people are watching him and giving him credit!!
May 31, 200718 yr If you mean other WE producers, I'm in 2 minds whether I'd like him to do any more. Three different shows might start to look like a career change, rather than an occasional bit of fun and variety, learning new skills.
May 31, 200718 yr well I suppose I am being selfish, because I just want to see him in the show, and the WE is convenient for me, plus I would love for him to be successful in the WE as well as musically for his own music in fact I think I am wishing for world domination so he can show the continually dimissive people that he has talent by the bucket load! I know that with some people I talk to, when I say he is in Guys and Dolls now they pay much more attention credibility wise than when I said he had chart hits!
May 31, 200718 yr and yet, there are many others who dismiss musical theatre and see it as a step down career wise from "pop", even if the "pop star", (not Darius!) is autotuned up on every song, with a hugely popular sample filling in the rest, and then lip synching on some 'live' concerts "because of their dance routines". Any live music show is hard. More so, where the individual has to fit in with many others; complicated arena tour/ stadium routines or "dance and song" musicals for example. More difficult again is what Darius is doing........moving seamlessly from acting to singing to dancing and interacting with one/many. I'm glad that your friends at least seem to appreciate that.
May 31, 200718 yr Author Quote Baytree - and yet, there are many others who dismiss musical theatre and see it as a step down career wise from "pop", even if the "pop star", (not Darius!) is autotuned up on every song, with a hugely popular sample filling in the rest, and then lip synching on some 'live' concerts "because of their dance routines". As regards dismissing musical theatre, I think this was the norm but I do think the ALWs Maria and joseph have gone a long way to making people realise how much harder work it is to do musical theatre than pop. They have to be good at such more things than singing such as acting, dancing but the main thing is they have to produce it 8 shows a week compared to one show now and then with pop and it is hard work and I think the public are realising this and more people are tuning into musical theatre which to some degree is proved by the advance bookings for both Joseph and even Grease. I read that the BBC are now keen to do a similar show with Saturday night fever but ALW wants to get on with a sequal to phantom of the opera with frederick forsyth writing for it so presumably ALW wont be involved. However they still have his partner in his group viz. David ian, who was a judge on maria and now is a judge on grease much to his concern I thinkI think the many who dismiss musical theatre and see it as a step down are living under a misapprehension as to the work involved compared to singing pop (not writing it).
May 31, 200718 yr I think the bit that impressed me most was his acting. He could do straight roles easily. I do like to hear him sing though. His back is fine. They stretched it and he said it didn't hurt at all now. He didn't sand out in the dancing which, to me was an inredible feat. Apart from making it appear that he was the same height as everyone else, the nmoves were perfect. The dances with his partner went really smoothly and he even managed to twist UNDER her arm. It's really good to see how happy he is. It comes over that he loves the people he shares his life with and is really content. That's all you need. Edited May 31, 200718 yr by megham
May 31, 200718 yr You're right about his acting, megham, and tbh Darius crossing the line and taking on a straight acting role would unsettle me. It probably seems very irrational but while I'd be curious to see what kind of part he would accept, at the back of my mind would be the concern that, given his obvious talent, it might be the one step that would be a catalyst for losing him to music. I've tried listening to all the other singer/songwriters who have become popular but although I enjoy some songs, their music in general and/or voice just doesn't touch me like D's.
May 31, 200718 yr I've got photobucket working again. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v614/megham/Guys%20and%20Dolls/IMG_2829small.jpg [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v614/megham/Guys%20and%20Dolls/IMG_2865.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v614/megham/Guys%20and%20Dolls/IMG_2879.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v614/megham/Guys%20and%20Dolls/IMG_2855small.jpg I need to get a keyboard that actually doesn't expect me to bash it with a sledge hammer.
