June 21, 200718 yr What a temptation - Darius helpless in her grip and unable to use his hands. If she keeps that up, healing himself with Reiki won't be enough. He'll need a good chiropractor at the end of the run. He can hit me with his rhythm sticks any day. (That bit still comes as a big surprise to those who've only seen the film.) The people round about Michelleh and I were going on about how great he was. On the one hand, it was lovely to hear but on the other, some were dashed irritating because they didn't wait for the interval and they weren't exactly whispering.
June 23, 200718 yr Author His last night tonite for guys and dolls, would love to have been able to go. Hope somebody is going to give us the gen. What about Meg - maybe she is going.
June 24, 200718 yr I nipped through to Edinburgh and I saw the last show but I didn't see Darius before or after. The trains were all delayed because there was flooding in the Queen Street Tunnel so they all had to wait first and then go much slower along that very busy stretch. When I got to Edinburgh there were also notices in Waverley station about delays to Glasgow trains because of a landslip. However, when I went in, I saw Julie and Wendy in the downstairs stalls bar and had a good chat. Later I spotted Monster a few rows ahead and I spoke briefly to her and Surrogatemum at the interval. After the show I went round to the stage door with Wendy and Julie but it was horrendous weather and I was also anxious about getting my train back. I waited for a while but although I saw Natasha going in (feeling green - how can anyone look so natural and so beautiful huddled under an umbrella in torrential rain?), I didn't see any of the cast come out, not even Big Jule who's always been super quick at getting changed and out. I had to reluctantly go. As I turned back up Greenside Lane, I recognised Vicki among the group coming down. :cheer: You know me. I'm not observant. I couldn't spot any pranks in the show but for the first time that I've seen, Darius had to make two attempts to get the gun from Big Jule. When Darius came onstage for his last scene, he got such a huge reaction :yahoo: that he couldn't start his lines and eventually had to just belt them out and the audience then quietened enough to hear the "cr*p game bit". In a novel twist at the end, the 2 girls Lynsey and Louise left the stage and returned with flowers for Shaun and Darius. I think they probably had bought them themselves because they were not identical. Darius moved across and gave Shaun a big manly hug. He waved a few times and blew some kisses too before finally leaving the stage. Right at the end when all the cast have left the stage, bar a few stragglers including Lynsey and Shaun, and they usually tango off in the semi-dark, they changed it last night. They did the Morecambe and Wise dance off. It was so funny but I'm not sure the bulk of the audience caught it or recognised it. Edited June 24, 200718 yr by Baytree
June 24, 200718 yr Author Thanks Baytree, it was so good to hear how the last show went and that Darius was so well received. Was it a full house? Glad some of the others managed to get there. I would dearly love to have gone but it is so far and only returned from swanage on thursday so just couldnt make it. Presumably Natasha must have stayed most of week. I really dont understand why she or them as a pair didnt get some attention media wise, she is after all quite well known and other stars visiting from the states usually get a mention.
June 24, 200718 yr As I said previously, it's family time. Natasha is not here as a celeb and so I don't think she'd want to attract the media's attention, especially as both her sons are with her. She's always been very protective of them. There are incredibly few pictures of her with them in Los Angeles. Just the very rare charity event or children's film premiere. There's also the Northern problem - the nationals don't tend to bother unless it's happening in or around London or involves 'bad' behaviour. What's more strange is the silence of the DR. I wonder what he's done to get the cold shoulder from them. Darius told Julie that they're not going straight back to LA but are going to have a family holiday in Europe. He mentioned France. Scottish schools and colleges break up this week so perhaps it will be an extended family holiday. Darius so deserves it. Although he must be incredibly fit, I'd like to see him put on some weight. Those dance routines wearing a 3 piece suit must have taken their toll for someone like Darius, who doesn't wear a suit often and isn't used to energetic dance routines. It's always so hot on a stage anyway. As far as I could see it was a full house but even from the front row of the stalls, it isn't possible to see more than the first few rows of the third tier. It certainly sounded as if it was a full house. Edited June 24, 200718 yr by Baytree
June 24, 200718 yr Aw, I've just read Monster's report on dariusmusic. I wish I'd risked missing the train. I'd have loved to have been there when Darius and Natasha came out. Mutually memorable for both parties I should think. I'll bet that gave Darius more of a buzz than a swanky party would.
June 24, 200718 yr Sorry, no. As I said, I didn't see Darius before the show because my train was late and after it, I had to leave before he and Natasha came out.

It was such a shame that you had to leave BT!! It was such a lovely way to end D's last night - he was in his element and the kids loved him!!! It was pouring with rain but they just didn't care and neither did D or Natasha!! Everyone was singing along!! It was great!!! It was a shame that Shaun didn't come out and join in - none of us realised that it was his last night as well until he was presented with the bouquet on stage!! After working his way through all the autographs and photos with the children he still made time for all of us who were waiting - a kiss and a photo - and then he and Natasha walked up the road with us to their car. At the top of the road he pulled up alongside us, wound down the car window and thanked us all again for the flowers, cards and well-wishes that everyone had sent. My last memory of a wonderful weekend is Darius and Natasha leaning out of their car window talking to us all - they must surely be the most beautiful couple in Hollywood!!! B) I just hope that we don't have to wait too long before we can do it all again!!! :cheer: :D Julie

June 24, 200718 yr Most beautiful totally natural couple, for sure. Natasha doesn't need pampered or airbrushed and her make up is never heavy and Darius is stunning. I'd forgotten about that wayward banknote. Good job he managed to hold it together until the law of gravity took effect.

Glad you got home OK!! :D
June 25, 200718 yr Wish I'd been there to hear and see the kids singing to him and him to them....really special. Let's hope we don't have too long to wait now.
June 25, 200718 yr Darius is absolutely astounding. :w00t: He's tackled 2 MT roles which involve a good bit of acting and he's done each with probably not much more rehearsal time than those who are in the business - 15 days for Billy Flynn and 3 weeks for Guys and Dolls. Apart from the difficult choreography, G&D was a far stiffer test for his acting skills. He has to convey a lot of different emotions as Sky, but always in a manly way as befits a hardened gambler used to mixing with low-life but he also has to make his conversion convincing. He can be absolutely proud of what he has achieved. With a bit more meat on his bones, I could see Darius in all those Howard Keel roles. BTW for those who're interested, the ECAs and EPAs are going on now for the Broadway production so it looks like the money men are in place and it will open there in 2008 with an American cast.

June 27, 200718 yr Idon't think I've seen this before. http://www.list.co.uk/magazine/index.php?w...on:view,id:2270 or this http://www.one4review.com/Non_fringe_/non_...ys_n_dolls_.htm http://thomasadamsmusic.blogspot.com/ Edited June 27, 200718 yr by Baytree
June 27, 200718 yr Thanks BT. This is what I've been saying :cheer: The on stage love affair is totally believable and the disintegration from the indifferent aloof gambler to the enraptured lover was enchanting.
June 28, 200718 yr thanks, I love reading reviews - I just love hearing and reading people praise Darius
June 28, 200718 yr Thanks BT. This is what I've been saying :cheer: I was so impressed that with such short rehearsal time, Darius could learn all the dialogue and those complicated dance routines with everybody on stage moving so quickly and changing places so much, that I didn't really think about the implications of how great a challenge it was to play a character who changes emotionally 180 degrees in less than 3 days and have to make that totally credible.
June 30, 200718 yr I woke far too early today and I re-watched the film and you know, I can't see Brando's Sky changing that much from the beginning to the end. The extra long conversation within their Havana scene and the song Woman In Love both help to convince me that Sarah loves him, but I'm not so certain that he's thoroughly smitten with her. Maybe in the film she's going to "marry the man today and change his ways tomorrow!" Isn't it a shame they missed that song out. I think it's great. Hollywood also left "Class" out of Chicago. Do they have a thing against women duetting?
