August 31, 200717 yr Author Wow! I didn't realise that the #1s were selling that many, Ian :o I'd be more than happy if we can get a few Top 10s and, like you, I'd love to see If I Can Dream be one  I think a lot of non Elvis fans didn't know that song and with the American Idol show, a few more will know it now. But of course, however good the duet with Celine Dion was, the ultimate version is the original! It's a fantastic song and Elvis delivers it with a passion

September 5, 200717 yr Hound Dog made it to #14 :D http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6975331.stm Hiya, This weeks number 1 sold 55 144 while Elvis only managed 9 462 so Hound Dog's No. 14 was actually quite good! The problem for Elvis is downloads. Whereas all the other songs in the chart enjoy strong physical and download sales combined to make their chart position, Elvis gets very low downloads so it's mainly his physicals that are getting the chart positions. In 2005, because downloads didn't count towards the chart for anyone, Elvis was on the same terms as everything else in the chart hence the No.1's and all the other 2's 3's 4's and a 5! I reckon if he can get Top 15 with all releases it would be a good result. The only snag is that already a trend is beginning as the singles are starting to dip slightly! 11, 13, 14 :(
September 5, 200717 yr Author Hi Ian I agree. I think, because of the design of these releases, most people have actually bought the physical release, CD or/and vinyl, as opposed to downloading the tracks so the results we're getting really aren't bad at all :) Carole Midweek Chart Update In the UK "Elvis The King" is expected to go gold on Sunday as sales look to exceed 100.000 units. The album has also given Elvis another first for his collection. On the UK single chart front, "Teddy Bear" is tipped to be this weeks highest new entry and remain in the Top 10. "Hound Dog" drop to a Top 60 position while "Suspicious Minds" is looking at a #70 position. "In The Ghetto" by Lisa Marie and Elvis Presley has re-enterd the midweek chart in the mid 90's, while "Blue Suede Shoes" and "My Baby Left Me" both drop out of the Top 100 after both sharing 2 weeks on the chart. September 19, 200717 yr Author Oooh, so close :o Be great if we can get higher than 14 with this weeks' release Don't B)
September 22, 200717 yr Hi Carole, "Don't" is still being listed as provisional Top 10 for Sunday but by Saturday most Elvis fans will have bought the single so it'll probably miss the 10 again! On Tuesday he was sitting at No.3 after 1 days sales which suggests all the fans buy on the first few days and taper off as the week goes on. Looking forward to the release of "If I Can Dream" in October. I've loved this song for years. Very poignant lyrics for the time it was written in 1968. Many peeps could have sung it but Elvis' performance and vocals on the track make it so special. Every line feels like it's sung from the heart with passion and truth in a way many artists might have failed. <_<
September 22, 200717 yr Author Hi Ian, As much as I'd love a Top 10 this week, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we get a similar result to the last few weeks :( Just hope I'm wrong! As you say, I think the majority of sales are happening in the first few days after release, and due to the special design of the collection, I don't think downloads will be playing a large part. Looking forward to the release of "If I Can Dream" in October. I've loved this song for years. Very poignant lyrics for the time it was written in 1968. Every line feels like it's sung from the heart with passion and truth in a way many artists might have failed. I agree with every word you've said. This song and his performance of it, shows the world what a truly wonderful performer Elvis was, and why no one comes close to him
October 2, 200717 yr Author Well this one broke the #14 jinx  Chart update: In the UK "Hard Headed Woman" debuts at #15 on this week's singles chart. On the Album Chart "The King" rose 10 places to #30 on the album chart.
October 2, 200717 yr Author The re-issue single "King Creole" is currently in the Top 5 on the midweek chart updates. The "Elvis The King" compilation is back into the Top 25 best selling albums again. Elvis has three entries on the UK Music DVD Top 20 Chart; "The 68 Comeback Special" moves up from #6 to #5. "Aloha From Hawaii" moves up from #16 to #13 and "Destination Vegas" drops from #12 to #19. Source: For Elvis CD Collectors Forum / Updated: Oct 2, 2007
October 4, 200717 yr Author Here's some info about King Creole B) King Creole - 2007 Single Reissue http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/cd_single_kingcreole_07.jpg Single #9 in the 2007 single re-issue series from BMG U.K. Design The picture shows the clean cut rock and roll star; he lost the raw edge he showed on the cover of his debut album, but still looks good enough to shoot his next movie in color. The picture is flipped the wrong way, but still looking like a legend. The numbered CD comes as a ‘mini-vinyl’ replica card sleeves with an outer and inner bag. The outer bag features the original U.S. picture sleeve artwork, while the inner bag replicates a generic U.K. RCA single from the time of the original U.K. release. Rather than have the standard silver finish on the ‘playing’ side of the disc, each CD rear comes with a black finish, again to replicate a miniaturised version and the look of the original vinyl release. Content The single, coupled with "Dixieland Rock", reached #2 on the U.K. singles chart on it's original release in 1958 while Elvis was stationed in Germany. This is what Wikipedia says about the "King Creole" soundtrack: King Creole is the sixth album by Elvis Presley, issued on RCA Records, LPM 1884, in September 1958, recorded in three days at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. It contains songs written and recorded expressly for the film, and peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart. It followed the film release by over ten weeks. The bulk of the songs originated from the stable of writers contracted to Hill and Range, the publishing company jointly owned by Presley and Colonel Tom Parker: Fred Wise, Ben Weisman, Claude Demetrius, Aaron Schroeder, Sid Tepper, and Roy C. Bennett. Conspicuous in their relatively limited contribution were Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who had come to an impasse with the Colonel during the making of the previous movie, Jailhouse Rock, in which they had practically dominated the musical proceedings. Furious over mere songwriters having such easy access to Presley without going through Parker's "proper channels," the Colonel closed off their avenue to his prize client, especially since the duo had also tried to influence Presley's film direction, pitching him an idea to do a gritty adaption of Nelson Algren's recent novel, A Walk on the Wild Side, with Elia Kazan directing, and Leiber & Stoller providing the music. The Colonel put the kibosh on such notions, although echoes of the concept remained in the film, and the pair still managed to place three songs on the soundtrack, including the title track and "Trouble," arguably the film's best songs. Presley's performance of "Trouble" in the film alludes to Muddy Waters and Bo Diddley; he would return to the song for his tremendously successful television comeback special. The songs "Hard Headed Woman" and "Don't Ask Me Why" appeared as two sides of a single on July 10, 1958, to coincide with the release of the film. "Hard Headed Woman," the A-side, and "Don't Ask Me Why" both made the pop singles chart, peaking at #1 and #25 respectively. The album was reisued for compact disc in an expanded edition on April 15, 1997, and again in an audiophile version from Japan on August 25, 2005. For the both reissues, an additional seven tracks were added, including the song "Danny" taken from the same sessions, with six alternates, four previously unreleased. October 7, 200717 yr Author In the U.K. "King Creole" is a new entry at #15 on the Singles chart while "Elvis The King" climbs to #21 on the Album Chart. In Ireland "King Creole" is a new entry at #23 while "Elvis The King" drops from #37 to #39 on the Album chart. In Australia the "'68 Comeback Special" DVD drops from #35 to #37 on the DVD Top 40 while the "Aloha From Hawaii Special" hangs on to the last spot, dropping from#29 this week. In Germany "Elvis The King" drops from #30 to #33. In the Flanders part of Belgium "The Essential Elvis Presley" drops from #26 to #49. In the Wallonian site of the country "The Essential Elvis Presley" drops from #13 to #22 Source: Various / Updated: Oct 7, 2007 Another disappointing result :( Looks like lack of downloads are playing a large part in the chart success of these releases. Fans are buying the physical vinyl or CD ;)
October 8, 200717 yr Hi Carole, Disappointed that King Creole only made 15 this week. So far we've had peak positions of: 11, 13, 14, 14, 14, 14, 15, 15... with sales averaging around 9000 copies. Let's hope we can keep hitting the Top 20 until December! :cheer:
October 8, 200717 yr Author You're so right Ian! For Elvis to get 18 Top 20 hits in 2007 is still pretty amazing stuff
October 9, 200717 yr You're so right Ian! For Elvis to get 18 Top 20 hits in 2007 is still pretty amazing stuff  Yep, when you think about it, how long would it take for any artist or band to have 18 Top 20 hits? Perhaps 4 or 5 years?? Elvis could pull it off in 18 weeks, as he did in 2005!!
October 10, 200717 yr Author UK Midweek Charts for 10th October A Big Hunk O' Love' - No.2 'Elvis The King' - Top 40. Elvis has two entries on the UK Top 10 Music Video Charts: Up from 5 to 3 - 'The 68 Comeback Special' Up from 13 to 10 - 'Aloha from Hawaii'. Think that's the highest we've had for a midweek in this campaign, but I'm not going to get excited cos I have this nagging feeling that #15 is beckoning again
October 11, 200717 yr Yep Carole, "A Big Hunk O' Love", seems to have had a better start than recent releases but, on recent updates today, it's slipped to the lower end of the Top 10 so, as you say, a Top 15 might be the best we can get this week! ;) PS It's one of my fave releases of 2007 so far! A great uplifting track! :cheer:
October 11, 200717 yr Author I love the song too, Ian and I always think of Elvis having fun singing it at Aloha whenever I hear it  A Big Hunk O'Love - 2007 Single Re-issue http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/cd_single_abighunkolove_07.jpg Single #10 in the 2007 single re-issue series from BMG U.K. Design The picture shows Elvis stationed in Germany; the place Elvis was during the original release of the single. The numbered CD comes as a ‘mini-vinyl’ replica card sleeves with an outer and inner bag. The outer bag features the original U.S. picture sleeve artwork, while the inner bag replicates a generic U.K. RCA single from the time of the original U.K. release. Rather than have the standard silver finish on the ‘playing’ side of the disc, each CD rear comes with a black finish, again to replicate a miniaturized version and the look of the original vinyl release. Content After recording "I Need Your Love Tonight" Elvis taped the even steamier "A Big Hunk O'Love" with lyrics like "I ain't greedy baby, all I want is all you've got". From the first notes of the song this song catches you with the little offbeat drum, wild piano and interaction between Elvis and the band. The first take which is added as the bonus track shows clearly in which direction the final master would develop; a wilder version. In between these two versions of the steamy "A Big Hunk O'Love" the sacred sounding "My Whish Came True" is a bad choice for the flip side, or was it chosen to make up for the sexy sounding A side. Additional information from Wikipedia: "A Big Hunk o' Love", a song sung by Elvis Presley, was recorded on June 10, 1958 in RCA's Nashville, Tennessee studio, while Presley was on leave from the U.S. Army. It was released as a single A-side on June 23, 1959. Its B-side was "My Wish Came True". It was Presley's twelfth number-one hit, and it reached number four in the United Kingdom. The song was recorded in four takes; the released version is actually spliced from takes three and four. The song was added to the "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong: Elvis' Gold Records - Volume 2" compilation. The ninth album by Elvis Presley, issued on RCA Records, LPM 2075, in November of 1959. From two recording sessions in June, 1958 at RCA Studios in Nashville, and three at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, it is a compilation of hit singles released in 1958 and 1959 by Presley. It peaked at #31 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, and is considered to be one of the most successful and influential compilation albums of all time. The song was revived by Presley in 1972 during his engagements at the Las Vegas Hilton in February 1972 and was used in his live shows until mid 1973. It was performed live for the last time on January 26, 1974. The song is included in the 1972 documentary Elvis On Tour and his 1973 show broadcast via satellite, Aloha from Hawaii. During this time period, the Elvis’ TCB Band, and featured Glen D. Hardin and James Burton played it. Tracklist: • A Big Hunk o' Love • My Wish Came True • A Big Hunk o' Love (take 1)
