Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has slammed the Libertines, Bloc Party and the Arctic Monkeys for being "rubbish".

The 'Brown Sugar' rocker, who has toured with the Rolling Stones for almost 45 years, criticised today's bands for being artificial and lacking integrity.

He told the NME: "Everyone's a load of c**p. They're all trying to be somebody else and they ain't being themselves. Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party? Load of c**p, load a c**p. Posers, rubbish.

"There ain't nothing out there that's worth s**t".

I don't agree with him but You gotta love good ole Keith

I don't agree with him either. He said as well in that interview that he snorted his father's ashes whilst he was doing a line on cocaine.

I disagree with him but everyone's entitled to their opinion. He could've been nicer while expressing his point of view, though, but it's Keith Richards so we couldn't have expected less from him
Keith Richards is entitled to say whatever he wants to say as far as I'm concerned - the guy is a fukkin' LEGEND, and truly one of the originals.... And, frankly, he kind of has a point, no one that's big and well-known from today is really creating anything that's different or challenging or even particularly memorable... The most challenging and interesting music is mainly coming from the guys like Morrissey, Nick Cave, Jarvis, Kate Bush, etc, who've been doing the rounds for bloody donkeys years... Pretty much all the 'young men' from this day and age are actually sounding a lot more tired and jaded than the oldies... And that's really a sad thing
I agree that many indie artists are using a very similar sound to one another recently but I definitley don't think that Arctic Monkeys are one of the biggest culprits for this, they're showing a lot more innoative on this 2nd album and experimenting with their sound. However I do think that many new indie artists are sounding like replicas to bands which are currently around and not doing such a good job either.

I know what you mean. I like indie but recenlty there's too many bands breaking through that ALL sound the same. Like I was watching B4 yesterday and I heard this band called Bel's Boys - utter c**p. At least the Arctics have something that makes them above most other indie bands around at the moment as Alex is one of the best songwriters of this generation.

I agree that lyrically Arctic Monkeys are brilliant which adds to how great their music is. :D

Sure is. ^_^ And the thing is their lyrics always have a meaning behind them and some are just pure genius like Temptation Greets Like Your Naughty Friend for example!

Alex is one of the best songwriters of this generation.

Then I truly fear for this generation of songwriters if AM is the best we can hope for..... Sorry guys, but I've quite literally heard it all before.. And I am incredibly disappointed by what is passing for "indie" at the moment... Editors are decent enough, but they're just copying Echo and the Bunnymen, Teardrop Explodes and Psychedelic Furs; Interpol are good too, but again, they're just replicating Bauhaus, Joy Division, The Cure, etc.... Arctic Monkeys, I see as average at best (and yes, I did listen to the album all the way through..), I dont think in terms of songwriting that they are on a par with either of the two bands I mentioned... 'Keef' is right, too many bands are trying to be something else...

Well I can see where you're coming from, but I mean i'll admit for one that there's a lot of Indie bands that just write about nothing of any relevance. Maybe it's because i'm a Yorkshire lad like they are which is why I like them as much as I do and I can relate to some of the stuff they write about.

Editors and Interpool are decent enough, but i've never actually listened to their lyrics properly like I have done with AM, but I think i'll do that now.
