Well thay are right - they certainly wouldn't play his music on radio. It was really weird how it went from being in the most requested charts on stations and being played, to Capital taking the radio stations over, and his stuff immediately being dropped completely. At least they could have been subtle about it.

too true, I was sorry but not suprised to read elsewhere that Andy had been dropped.

as for being played, I am sure these stations only have a few records to hand, the ones they are "paid" to plug, and the ones that they dont have to pay royalties on...darius isnt alone in suddenly being not played after the initial releases. While some old chestnuts are on continuosly as to make me think I am in Groundhog day -

also just read G4 are splitting up, mind you..they are doing a tour first, how apt, great PR "see G4 in their last ever tour" then if it sells well they will decide to stay together ehh.

I never liked G4 at all to be honest, I wanted to hear Queen singing Bohemian Rhapsody - not some terrible wailing opra take on it.

There is a conspiracy theory running on the GG thread in the pop forum where Darius gets a mention. I have to say that I think this theory could be true.Some time before live twice came out woolies had a banner reading coming soon which showed Il diva (which came out the same week as live twice) but no mention of D on this banner of coming soon. even though he was releasing the same week as them. When the release day came il diva were everywhere in woolies constantly being played in the stores etc. but no sign of live twice I h ad to ask for it. and yes my local station now capital plays sony/bmg artistes constantly even ones past.

I thought G4 were quite original and undoubtedly talented singers but I didn't like some of the covers they chose to do. I've never voted for them and don't possess any of their records and I can only recognise 2 of them by sight- the blond one and the plump one. I couldn't begin to describe the other 2.

 

I think the blond one ( Jonathon?) could churn out and sell albums of classical, musical, etc standards.....for years and years.

 

I am afraid I feel it is the men in black who run the music industry!

I must admit I was annoyed about Darius being ignored earlier. It was just the Capital Radio thing that seemed to make it chrystal clear that it had nothing to do with listener requests which records they would play.

 

Since then, I've had a very jaundiced view of the entertainment industry. It has saved me £s though, I've bought music all my life - now I hear so much less as I don't feel like being told what I should like. I'm capable of making up my own mind.

Apart from classic fm when I'm working in the kitchen, I never voluntarily listen to the radio at all. About the only time I hear it now is when my car cd player switches automatically to radio for the traffic reports.

 

Frankly, if you know who assails my ears at the supermarket I just head for the exit, put my basket down at customer services and go outside for a 5 minute break. The same records are played so often I can recognise them from the first couple of notes.

I agree, I find that records are even played at the same times of theday, I go out at a certain time, radio in the car comes on..and I am in groundhog day again.

I find I am sick of Indie now, its as if the DJs have no minds of their own, this is what is in..and that is what you will listen to everything is overkill these days.

Darius once got himself into hot water when he was unaware his mike was switched on, and he spoke about the men in black behind PI and the poisoned chalice that winning would be. That was on Scotland Today, if I remember.

 

Shame people didn't listen and instead, they put all of Darius's views about PI e.g. the manipulation behind the scenes and being forced to record covers and rush release them on the back of the show, down to jealousy of Will and Gareth.
