Proclaimers could go in record books

EMI is seeking to register The Proclaimers’ new version of (I’m Gonna Be) 500 Miles as both the fastest-selling download audio and video track with the Guinness Book Of Records.

 

Between 9.30pm on March 16 and midnight on March 17 the Official Charts Company registered 22,001 audio sales. Meanwhile, Between 9.30pm on March 16 and midnight on March 18, the video sold 46,463.

 

The video was sold through iTunes, HG3, 7digital and Tunetribe, with iTunes by far the most popular site to buy through.

 

EMI has written to the Guinness Book Of Records to have the figures included in future editions.

Hopefully Guinness will reply 'We only include songs/vedeos that sell on *merit*, rather than artificailly boosted by charity' :)

 

Besides, with the continuing rapid development of this market, it's perfectly possible these figures will be exceeded before the next edition is published.

Cheers for that Mikey :thumbup: and vidcapper, I think it doesn't really matter how it came about, lots of songs obtain hugely inflated sales in many ways, talent shows, songs being used in commercials, mass media hype, why not charity songs?
I'll make a (horribly depressing) prediction the next winner of X-Factor(4) will release his/her/their single in December 2007 on download only at 21:30 Hrs on Saturday evening and it will be #1 with 2.5 Hrs sales by the following day's chart. :puke2:
