Posted April 8, 200718 yr which incarnation of woody was your favourite? the move? good time late 60's pop group whos 'flowers in the rain' was the first track ever played on radio 1... ? i liked the move, my fav being 'fire brigade'. the electric light orchestra was formed with jeff lynne but woody soon left to follow the rock n roll revival thing in the early 70's. i rated early e.l.o. under woodys influence. '10538 overture' was a superb track imho as was 'showdown'. but e.l.o soon became rather bland imo... apart from 'out of the blue' and the single 'mr blue sky' im not at all fussed with them. wizzard (2 z's) however produced a few decent pop (rock n roll) tracks... 'ball park incident' was my fav, though 'see my baby jive' still sounds good, a good pop song! of course there was that crimbo hit too, and it was very good however just how many times can you hear it ?..lol.. the 'idle race' anyone?.. jeff lynnes earlier group, had a super little ditty 'the skeleton and the roundabout' which failed to chart in '68... anyone else remember it?
April 8, 200718 yr Let's see what I can find on Youtube: b56WO5ctL8E Roy Wood - Dear Elaine (UK#18 1973) uNClsvgv2V0 The Move - California Man (UK#7 1972) PLpc2Dp3a4U Wizzard - Ball Park Incident (UK#6 1972) Ady6lRhe05Q ELO - 10538 Overture (UK#9 1972)
April 8, 200718 yr I always liked the move ,loved songs like I can hear the grass grow,Flowers in the rain,Fire Brigade,California man and Blackberry way. As ELO, dreamed up by Wood(who leaves after one hit) I loved the early stuff and their fusion of classical instuments and rock riffs, set them apart from their peers. 10538 overture is a classic, as is Showdown and Can't get it out of my head. Must admit to liking ELO after Wood's departure. They were different to all the other similar sounding groups of the 70's. Got most of their albums. Not a huge fan of Wizzard but did like Ball park incident and See my baby jive. I think Jeff Lynne actually replaced Wood in the Idle Race,is this correct? Don't remember 'the skeleton and the roundabout' tbh. No doubt both Wood(who could play loads of instruments) anf Lynne were immensely talented, and it was Lynne that the remaining Beatles turned to in the 90's to produce their new album.
April 9, 200718 yr Author listen to 10538 overture then remind yourselves where paul 'plagarist' wellar got the riff from on his 'changing man' track <_<
April 9, 200718 yr The Move! The Move! ELO disqualified cos he was barely with them and Wizzard disqualified cos if I ever hear 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day' again I'm gonna strangle someone.
April 9, 200718 yr Author The Move! The Move! ELO disqualified cos he was barely with them and Wizzard disqualified cos if I ever hear 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day' again I'm gonna strangle someone. yeah but i was trying to broaden the thread so by including e.l.o. who were big, im hoping for a broader range of comments, not just woody.
April 9, 200718 yr I like all Roy Wood's successful incarnations though I have to say that the Move were the best of the lot. Favourite songs are "I Can Hear The Grass Grow" and the later "Brontosaurus" and "Tonight". Also like "10538 Overture" (best thing ELO did in my opinion) and the early Wizzard hits. A talented guy. Shame a lot of people see him as a bit of a joke though.
April 9, 200718 yr I loved one of Roy Wood's solo hits " Forever".See my baby jive,Rock N Roll Winter ,Ball Park Incident & Angel Fingers were all great pop records with some complex arrangements. He still tours with his band . I saw him at Rock With Laughter show at NEC just before Christmas. Last night I saw Charlie Grima , Wizzard's drummer , join in a jamming session at Old Silhillians Club nr Bham with Mike Sheridan's band. Sheriden & Roy Wood used to be in the Mike Sheriden & the Nightriders. In 1966 Roy left to form the Move and Jeff Lynne joined the Night riders who then changed to The Idle Race .

April 10, 200718 yr Love ELO and Wizzard, great pop tunes. As for The Move, Flowers In The Rain was a great song played by Tony Blackburn on R1's first day. "Good morning everyone welcome to the fab new sound of Radio 1". How many times has that clip been that aired now? Quite a few times as it's been featured in various documentaries.
April 10, 200718 yr How many times has that clip been that aired now? Quite a few times as it's been featured in various documentaries. Well I suppose its easier to find clips in other peples docs than research new stuff  btw the move. isnt that 'goodbye blackberry way'. thats alright that is
