Posted April 11, 200718 yr yesterday a woman failed for her right to have her frozen embyos implanted as she now wants a baby. she and her partner had these embyos frozen before she had treatment for cancer, treatment that left her sterile. now she and her partner have split up, and he refuses to allow her to have the embryos implanted as he doesnt want to be a father by her... difficult one this really, whilst i feel for the woman...its her only chance of having a baby, i also agree with him. he doesnt want to be a father and have all the responsabilities that go with it. the embryos have now been destroyed :(.
April 11, 200718 yr I think he should have been more sympathetic about it if I'm being really honest. I would have let her go ahead with it if I was him, just knowing that was her only hope would sway it for me.
April 11, 200718 yr Author he was sympathetic to her, but simply didnt want the burden of kids.... :)
April 11, 200718 yr he was sympathetic to her, but simply didnt want the burden of kids.... :) Then why did he allowed them to "make" the embryons(is that how it spells in english?)? I don´t have any sympathy for this woman... So what, she can´t have a baby like millions of others in the world, there are millions of childrens needing to be adopted in the world but it´s like the b**ch can´t be a "real mother" if the baby has not grown up inside her f***ing womb. Why spend so much money, time, patience, etc on expensive treatments like this, create a human embryon, freeze it, then fight in justice to raise it when she could have just gone an easier and more human way if she wants to be a mother. She doesn´t deserve to be a mother because she only wants to get pregnant because of pride.

April 11, 200718 yr That view is at least 400 years outdated... like women serve just to reproduce and have no value if they can´t. I still think it´s stupid to make embryons first, and then decide later if they want it to live or not...

(but wrong! lol)

(but wrong! lol) It´s hardly the end of our species if one particular woman cannot give birth. Being a mother is not about having a baby on the womb for 9 months, it´s about raising it, so why so much effort in doing science tricks for a woman who can´t naturally give birth when she could just adopt it, but obviously that wouldn´t fullfill her childhood dreams of having a huge belly and tell everyone "I´m pregnant". She is not even married to the guy anymore, why is it so important for he to be a biological mother instead of adopting a kid when she won´t even raise a conventional family to start with. It´s stupid to men when so many woman want to abort or give away their kids that a woman will spend thousands in treatment just to have her "pleasure" of having a baby on her womb for 9 months. The children should be the center of attention, pregnancy doesn´t exist just to satisfy personal desires or dreams for women. It pisses me off to see people treating embryons and babies like products you buy in a supermarket... it´s not useful if it doesn´t have the same hair and eyes colour as its parents, like being a mother was just the biological factor. Don´t tell me it´s about nature, what´s natural on creating an embryon and freeze it for years and then just artificially install it in a woman´s body, surely that´s not why woman were "created" (or evolved) for.

As horrible as it seems to you women want their own kids. I'm female and hate the thought of having kids but when you do, you want a kid that's made up by you and the other person, you want to feel you and your partners baby growing inside you, a lifeform that you and your partner help make. Every women longs for the day they get to give birth to their child first see it, hold it, and fall in love with it. Being a foster parent is alright if you already have kids...It's just going to be really hard if you don't.
April 11, 200718 yr I can see both sides of the arguement. You feel sorry for her because her last chance of conceiving has gone. Although its true she can still adopt in the future, she will always feel a part of her is missing. She had a chance to have her own child and now she has been robbed of that opportunity. On the other hand the former partner has made it clear he does not want to be a father of any children to this woman, I presume he's worried about the child looking him up in later life, even if he's not a father figure in the beginning. Probably does not want to pay for the upbringing of the child either. It would be ironic if he becomes a father in future with someone else, after denying her the opportunity. I can't help wondering they could have compromised, she could have signed a legal document stating she would never make any financial demands on him, and she could have told the child the father had died or some other reason.
April 11, 200718 yr This is a very sad story. I can understand her longing for a child and this was her last chance to have a baby but her ex-partner didn't want to become a father and now the embryo has been destroyed. It looks like there's been no winners in this case.
April 12, 200718 yr it's extremely sad. The guy deserves all the contempt he will get in my opinion. OK, he didn't want to be a father... but how bitter, sick and twisted of him to deny her her desire for a child. I think, though, showing how nasty and spiteful he was about the whole case... what a rotten father he would've been, anyway.
April 12, 200718 yr It's a tough call this one tbh.... I can actually see JJN's point in some ways (but you are being so, so harsh on the woman though mate...), there are so many kids out there in orphanages crying out to be loved and have a parent figure to look after them, adoption can be every bit as rewarding as actually having your own... One of my cousins is adopted and it was certainly never a case of 'second best' there, my auntie and uncle loved him every bit as much as though he was their own biological offspring... Sometimes I do think that science can go a bit far, IVF treatments for women in their 50s????? FFS...!! <_< <_< But, the bloke is being a bit of a selfish b/astard though, but I suppose if a relationship breaks down in bad circumstances and the guy really doesn't want to be a father with this particular woman anymore, then why should he be beholden..? It's gonna be impossible for him to not be expected to take part in the raising of the child, and take on the financial burden as well.... I dunno, it's really tough... I dont envy the Judges in this case, it really must have been so fukkin' difficult for them to make a decision... It was a real 'Judgement of Solomon' this one...

'ruined my life, working to keep them in a house etc im paying for but will never see a penny off'... she should have frozen her eggs instead.
April 12, 200718 yr she should have frozen her eggs instead. That's a good point as well actuall... I mean, were they even 'married' anyway...? It was rather foolish on her part not to think about the possibility that the relationship may have gone sour.... Even if they were married, about a third or more of marriages end in divorce, just an unfortunate fact and an eventuality that she should really have taken into account when entering into this whole thing... I really dont see why she decided to have the eggs fertilised by her ex rather than simply frozen, would've saved everyone concerned a LOT of grief.....
