Posted April 14, 200718 yr In another topic, it posed something interesting to me..now I'm wondering. Which Enya songs don't really float your boat? Top ten list, please. ;)
April 16, 200718 yr Author I think I know which ones. (in no particular order) 1. The Celts 2. The Memory Of Trees 3. Marble Halls 4. A Moment Lost 5. If I Could Be Where You Are 6. Once You Had Gold 7. Aldebaran 8. As Baile 9. The River Sings 10. China Roses
April 17, 200718 yr Ooo, hard but not as hard as top ten faves. That's the worst, I always have a terrible time with that one. :D Also in no particular order: 1. One by One 2. Someone Said Goodbye 3. A Moment Lost 4. Once You Had Gold 5. China Roses 6. Hope Has A Place 7. Tea House Moon 8. If I Could Be Where You Are 9. Angeles 10. Flora's Secret Gloria, you must have mistakenly put TMOT on that list. -_- Edited April 17, 200718 yr by grace
April 17, 200718 yr Author  Nope, sorry..I have never been a fan of that instrumental, I think it's overrated. -_- You have a few of my favorites up there..One By One, Flora's Secret, Someone Said Goodbye..I agree with your other choices, though..those don't really float my boat, either.
April 17, 200718 yr Aw, I love TMOT. I like One By One and Flora's Secret ok... they just don't float my boat somehow. I've noticed that most people don't rate A Moment Lost very high on their list too. It just doesn't sound that great for some reason, can't say exactly why.
April 17, 200718 yr Author I think it's the way she sings it for me..when I first heard it, I remember thinking  because it wasn't up to par with the other songs on Amarantine.
April 17, 200718 yr Yeah, I think it's pitched too low for her voice. If it had been a little higher, it would have been better. B)
April 17, 200718 yr Here are mine... 1. Drifting - Into a coma? This is one few Enya songs I do not care for at all. I was most disappointed when I first heard this, especially as it was the only instrumental on the album. 2. From Where I Am - A poor imitation of the wonderful Miss Clare Remembers and No Holly For Miss Quinn. Thank God Enya came back with an amazing piano instrumental on ADWR. 3. Epona - A strange song, never liked much. 4. If I Could Be Where You Are - I was disappointed with this. So many slow, ballad-like Enya songs I've loved but this just never really gets going. When I heard the preview I thought it might erupt fantastically like Exile, but it doesn't. 5. Boadicea - A few reasons I don't care much for this: a] it being put on PTSWS is CRIMINAL, considering there are so many other better Enya songs; b] being used countless times as backing vocals for R&B songs doesn't help my opinion on it; c] I never really cared for it much anyway. 6. Paint The Sky With Stars - This is another song I was disappointed with, right from when I heard it back in 1997. I eagerly anticipated this song, even at a young age and after hearing Only If I thought this'd be just as good. Nahh... this has been skipped [along with Marble Halls] when I listen to the Best Of many times. 7. Portrait (from "Enya") - The second version re-released on The Celts is ok, but this doesn't really go anywhere, or last long enough to. There are some gems on The Celts, this isn't one of them. 8. River - Enya what were you thinking! :o A fantastic album named Watermark ruined by this imo. :( I'm not a huge fan of The Longships either, and that would probably come around 11th or 12th on this list, but I find this a most absurd song. 9. Marble Halls - I've never liked this, and I heard Aled Jones or someone singing it on an advert and it confirmed my dislike of it. Like River ruining Watermark, for me this interrupts the amazingness of Shepherd Moons. 10. Midnight Blue - This isn't too bad (by Enya standards), I just don't think it's one of her best - at all. Just very average and doesn't really do anything for me. So, songs from... Enya/The Celts: 3 Watermark: 1 Shepherd Moons: 1 The Memory Of Trees: 1 A Day Without Rain: 0 Amarantine: 2 Miscellaneous: 2
April 17, 200718 yr Author :o David..Watermark ruined by River?? Oh no no no no no no.. If anything did that, it would be The Longships, but I'm really starting to take to that song..and Drifting into a coma?? Oh NO again  That is one of my favorite instrumentals. From Where I Am is nice, but not up to par with a lot of her instrumentals..I also like Epona and Boadicea should be included on PTSWS, that was NOT criminal..oh boy, David..we don't agree much here. But that's okay, no two people have the same opinion when it comes to Enya songs. :)
April 17, 200718 yr Author Yes, we did..IICBWYA isn't pleasant on the ear to me..kind of sung too high, I think..I do like the lyrics, though.
April 17, 200718 yr It is too high, I agree. And goes on far too long. The River Sings is a welcome burst of energy when listening to Amarantine. :D
April 17, 200718 yr Author Yes, it does..I've read some say they dislike WSTHH..and I'm amazed by that because it's really beautiful..when I first heard it, I thought to myself "this can't be coming from Earth"
April 18, 200718 yr I  TRS. I have to say... I like WSTHH, but it isn't my favorite Enya song. Somehow it doesn't catch my ear that well. :runsforcover:  Well, it looks like so far everybody agrees about IICBWYA. I think the problem with it is not necessarily that it's too high; she carried off Athair Ar Neamh and Fallen Embers and Marble Halls very well; I think it's the blandness of the melody. It's not got enough variation and emotion.
April 18, 200718 yr It is quite bland, I'm actually surprised they decided to put it on the album, I thought they'd've found something better. :(
April 19, 200718 yr Author I think Fallen Embers and Athair Ar Neamh are way superior to that track. -_-
