Posted April 19, 200718 yr Typically begrudging article. Funny how it fails to mention relevant work like two successful runs as a lead in the West End and a nomination for a Theatre Award, but does remember to namecheck Fauldhouse, without filling in the background. http://news.scotsman.com/edinburgh.cfm?id=590592007 Edited April 19, 200718 yr by Baytree
April 19, 200718 yr thanks BT POP pin-up Darius Danesh is to take to the stage in a major musical in Edinburgh this summer. The former Pop Idol contender will be appearing alongside East-Enders star Shaun Williamson in Guys and Dolls at the Playhouse. Danesh, a former Edinburgh University student, will appear as Sky Masterson in the show, while Williamson, who played Barry Evans in the BBC1 soap, will take on the role of Nathan Detroit. Guys and Dolls, which features memorable songs like Luck be a Lady and Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat, is at the Playhouse from June 12-23. It will not be the first time the Glaswegian singer has caused a stir in the Lothians - in 2004 he was mobbed by fans during a one-off show at Fauldhouse Miners' Club. Perhaps they're expecting a mobbing again.......he definitely will cause a 'stir' :P
April 19, 200718 yr Obviously the 'comments' have been specifically chosen to get a cheap laugh! Not one word in his favour!
April 19, 200718 yr Well, starring in the West End means nothing. Ignore the comments. I'll go by mine - once I've seen it.
April 19, 200718 yr Author Obviously the 'comments' have been specifically chosen to get a cheap laugh! Not one word in his favour! That is also quite typical. The same happened when the announcement was made about Darius making his debut in the West End. Producers wouldn't cast him in these roles if he wasn't up to it. In an interview on youtube the producer of Guys and Dolls, Michael Grandage said that for this particular production they need firstly a good actor but they must be good in all three disciplines- acting, singing and dancing.
April 19, 200718 yr Thanks Baytree, wondered when they would get round to it. Those comments are pathetic and as you say you couldnt add yours, funny they should close the comments after what was shown and not allow others from people who had seen him in chicago isnt it.Not one of those whose comments have been printed I bet have seen him in chicago, yet again a case of not supporting their own.
April 19, 200718 yr I'm not Scotttish but, I think of Darius very much as our own - regardless of where we come from.
April 19, 200718 yr Author Someone put me out of my misery, please. What was the name of the radio programme for which Darius did the charity show at Fauldhouse and what was the title of the community group who organised it? Was the host Bryan Burnett or was it Dougie something - a red head, for sure. I am so glad I drove over to Fauldhouse. It was a great night. Apart from Darius I have a vivid memory of the two male soloists duetting on Brush Up Your Shakespeare.
April 19, 200718 yr The paper work is at the bottom of a box. I just hope someone else remembers so I don't have to did it out. I got so lost on the way there it was unbelievable. Well worth the trip though. And we had merchant City Bank as well. I've never seen D as happy as he was that day - even if he did cut a number out of the set so he could get his Dad home. I thought that was a fantastic few days made better by his Dad being allowed out of hospital for the first time. Just thought, wasn't it something like 'Let's put on a show'? Probably not. When things jump to the forefront of my brain, they're often wrong.
April 19, 200718 yr Ohhhh I'm looking forward to this mobbing and stiring......when we all going....you won't keep me away this time :funky:
April 19, 200718 yr Baytree - this is what I found - hope it helps. Singing star Darius is watching his career take off with singing dates around the world. However, he will be closer to home later this week, having agreed to appear on Radio Scotland's Let's Do The Show Right Here, from Fauldhouse Miners' Welfare. Producer Jo De Sylva was e-mailing Darius about the show and noticed her computer spellchecker suggested either Jailhouse or Alehouse for Fauldhouse, which crueller commentators may suggest is rather apt for the Lothian town. A fan of writer Hunter S Thompson, Jo had meanwhile considered renaming her show Fear and Las Vegas in Lothian. The BAOS have performed many different musicals in their 40 year history. I feel I remember that it was a musical society that put the show on but I could be wrong.
April 19, 200718 yr Sorry should have added this - it was a musical society - He will be appearing as the guest of BBC and Bathgate Amateur Operatic Society.
April 19, 200718 yr Author Thanks, Preston. I'm showing my age here but when I tried to remember the name of the radio show, I came up with Down Your Way. At least I knew that couldn't be right. I will always be grateful to the lady from BAOC who sold me her own ticket for that night. The whole point of the programme was that they teamed up a bona fide star with a community group and got the star to perform right there in the latter's local venue to raise funds for that group. Megham, I too got lost on my way to Fauldhouse and I'm ashamed to say that was after a dry run 2 days before. I thought I'd ironed out all the difficulties but I forgot I'd be driving as night fell. I arrived in plenty of time and just missed Darius. He'd been out especially to meet all the youngsters who'd gathered to see him, because they weren't allowed into licensed premises. April 20, 200718 yr Author Thanks Preston. I've remembered the MC was Bryan Burnett and also that at the time, a Scottish Sun journalist was so keen to take the usual pre-appearance kick at Darius, that he offended the people of Fauldhouse by describing the club as run down (without of course ever having been there). In fact, a lot of money had recently gone into refurbishing it. Bryan Burnett described it as the poshest Working Men's Club he'd ever been in. I was surprised at how big the actual function room was. There was a fantastic atmosphere too and all the staff were so nice, friendly and helpful. Edited April 20, 200718 yr by Baytree
April 20, 200718 yr Lets hope the Bathgate operatic society support him with bums on seats when he is in Guys and dolls at Edinburgh.
April 26, 200718 yr I wonder if it's any point doing a countdown thread? will that make it seem sooner or make it longer?
April 26, 200718 yr It would certainly make it more frustrating for those people who are not going to the show! But why not. Are you counting down to D's opening night? Edited April 27, 200718 yr by Bramley
April 27, 200718 yr I am excited about hearing reports and perhaps some pictures..I am wishing that perhaps he would get on TV for a little promo??
April 27, 200718 yr I missed seeing D on 'This Morning' just before Chicago. Must keep a lookout for him this time.
