Something of an 'all change' week for the singles chart with 8 new entries in the top 10. Two long-running hits have been pushed out of the Top 10 this week. Masafumi Akikawa drops from 5 to 11. "Sen no Kaze ni Natte" maintained a top 5 position for 17 consecutive weeks. The 19,041 copies sold last week bring his cumulative total to 826,476. Utada Hikaru's "Flavor of life" drops from 8 to 20. Sales of the physical CD single now stand at 604,859.

~Albums~

01 270,976 KAT-TUN - Cartoon (270,976)

02 223,658 Avril Lavigne - Best Damn Thing (223,658)

03 *55,528 YUI - Can't Buy My Love (446,822)

04 *40,473 Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare (40,473)

05 *33,035 大塚 愛 (Ai Otsuka) - Ai am BEST (565,280)

06 *20,002 Mr.Children - Home (1,051,103)

07 *17,614 コブクロ (KobuKuro) - All Singles Best (2,138,028)

08 *16,563 Beyonce - B'day Deluxe Edition (57,235)

09 *14,936 一青 窈 (Hitoto Yo) - Bestyo + Concertyo (14,936 + 677,256) see note

10 *12,407 谷村新司 (Shinji Tanimura) - Orion 13 (12,407)

Boy band KAT-TUN see off a strong challange from Avril Lavigne. Good showing for overseas acts with Arctic Monkeys and Beyonce also in the Top 10.

Note: "Bestyo + Concertyo" is a limited edition re-issue of the "Bestyo" album originally released on 2006-11-29. The new version includes a bonus DVD with concert footage. It's not yet clear to me if Oricon intend to tabulate this album as a separate item. As of last week, the original version had sold 677,256 copies.

~New Releases~

Tomorrow sees the release of "Brand New Song" - the 25th single from male duo KinKi Kids. If the name isn't familiar then this is what you need to know: their first 24 singles all went to No 1, (they're in the Guinness Book of Records). So can the 'Domoto Brothers' (despite having the same family name they are not related) make it 25 in a row? It isn't a foregone conclusion because there are some other strong releases tomorrow including:

  • BoA - Sweet Impact
  • Orange Range - Summer
  • Morning Musume - Kanashimi Twilight
  • CHEMISTRY - Sora No Kiseki
but the pre-sale data available so far suggests they are in with a reasonable chance of pulling it off. [oricon] [CDTV]
