Posted April 26, 200718 yr Robbie has the last laugh as Rudebox is nominated for songwriting award http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00160/robbie385_160225a.jpg Times Online April 23, 2007 Veronica Schmidt (Mate Nandorfi) He was criticised, laughed at and flat out told that white boys from Stoke shouldn’t rap. Now Robbie Williams is having the last laugh. Rudebox, the song that saw Williams panned by critics, has been nominated for an Ivor Novello songwriting award. Released last year, Rudebox was a new sound for the singer and it went down like a lead balloon. Not only was the single roasted, the album Rudebox failed to sell as expected and was named the worst album of the year at the NME Awards. Recently out of rehab, Williams will no doubt be pleased to hear of his nomination in the International Hit of the Year category. He is up against Madonna and her single Sorry and the Scissor Sisters’ hit I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’. Other nominations for the songwriting and composing awards include Amy Winehouse for Rehab and Arctic Monkeys for When the Sun Goes Down. Casino Royale has been nominated for Best Original Film Score. The awards will be held at The Grosvenor House hotel in central London on May 24. April 26, 200718 yr Author Robbie spurns critics with songwriting nomination Independent UK Robbie Williams has scored a victory over his critics with an Ivor Novello songwriting nomination for his single Rudebox. The attempt at electro-funk, panned by critics, is up for the International Hit of the Year, alongside Madonna's Sorry and the Scissor Sisters hit I Don't Feel Like Dancin'. Pop queen Madonna also has a second nomination for Sorry in the category of Most Performed Work. Rudebox marked a new sound for Williams, but was widely derided and failed to earn the star a Brit nomination for the first time in a decade. Now the nomination, for sales across the world, marks a turning point for the Angels singer, who spent his 33rd birthday in rehab. The Ivor Novellos recognise British songwriters and composers rather than performers. Williams, whose musical reputation took a battering after parting with co-songwriter Guy Chambers, co-wrote the Rudebox single. Amy Winehouse has been nominated for Best Contemporary Song for Rehab, which she penned herself. She competes in the category against Hot Chip's Over and Over and Yeah Yeah, performed by Bodyrox Ft Luciana. Arctic Monkeys hit song When the Sun Goes Down, penned by frontman Alex Turner, is nominated for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. Casino Royale has been nominated for Best Original Film Score. The 52nd Ivor Novellos will be held at The Grosvenor House hotel in central London on May 24.
April 26, 200718 yr Author Robbie's Rudebox up for award The Sun http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t33/therobbiewilliamssite/thesun3.jpg ROBBIE WILLIAMS has been nominated for an Ivor Novello award for his single Rudebox. And, yes, you DID read that correctly. Robbie’s self-penned track, which I crowned The Worst Single In History, is shortlisted for one of the top honours for British songwriting. And he could have the last laugh on me if he walks home with the gong after next month’s bash. Rudebox is up for International Hit Of The Year with MADONNA’s Sorry and SCISSOR SISTERS hit I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’. An Ivor is the gong any British songwriter craves for their mantelpiece. And Robbie deservedly won one in 1999 for Angels, the smash he wrote with his ex-songwriting partner GUY CHAMBERS. But I’m staggered that he is up for an Ivor for Rudebox — it still hasn’t grown on me since its release in September last year. The awards are on May 24 at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, where the great and the good of the British music industry will gather to pat themselves on the back. The event is hosted by the British Academy of Composers & Songwriters in association with the Performing Rights Society. And its organisers rave: “The Ivors are internationally respected as the premier award ceremony to reflect the talent of British songwriters and composers — and their contribution as the creative source of the music industry’s prosperity.” Well, those are fine sentiments. And Robbie’s modern-day ode to, well, I don’t know quite what, reflects one “creative source” that is surely out of the ordinary. The Rudebox lyrics read: “OK then back to baseheads dance like you just won at the special Olympics. “I got the rudebox of the back of a spaceship, so sick I just had to take it. “The R.U.D.E.B.O.X up yer jacksy, split yer kecks sing a song of Semtex, pocket full of Durex body full of Mandrex. “Are we gonna have sex (yes) will you wear your knee socks (ohh) back to the rudebox.” With lyrics like these, surely Robbie should also be Poet Laureate.
April 26, 200718 yr Author Such brilliant news, and I am so glad to see it be printed for a change, I would'nt thought it would've been ignored. Thankfully it has'nt. All those people who critisized Rob can stick it where the sun don't shine now  Who would've thought Rudebox of all songs would've been nominated for what seems such a serious award show :cheer:
April 26, 200718 yr Oh, sweet triumph... Of course it would be better still for Rob to come back with a smash hit to rub in the face of his critics, but this is not a bad start. At least it's one of the most positive (music) news in quite a time and probably the most positive Rudebox-related news ever.
April 26, 200718 yr Author The perfect smiley for all the critics and press http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/midi/frech/a118.gif

April 26, 200718 yr Author I doubt he'll win. but the fact that Rudebox was nominated for such a serious and prestigious award, for a song that was labelled the worsr is history just shows them for the idiots they are. And the fact that they all call Rudebox the biggest flop ever etc, yet it is nominated for International single of the year, and reached #1 in 8 countries (more than even Sexyback by JT). What morons
