In the tickets, concerts, theatre etc. there is a small standout write up re guys and dolls - quote

The same production that has been such a hit in the westend for almost two years is currently touring the country. Featuring a revolving cast including the london shows Nigel harman, Claire sweeney, shaun williamson, Brian capron and Darius Danesh (check venues for details) it includes classics such as Sit down you're rocking the boat and If I were a bell. michael begg. see www.stagetext.org. for full itinerary. call mirrortickets on 0870 145 1136. I see he is mentioned last but at least he is mentioned. Jonathon wilkes has been left out.

Thanks Preston.

I notice that Louise Dearman [sarah Brown] has also been left out, yet she is the only

person to play the complete tour.

I think the persons mentioned have been selected in terms of the reporter's awareness

of them [Eastenders appears to overshadow Chicago]. And I would have thought

'Luck be a lady' was better known than 'If I were a bell'. But then to us this

announcement is of importance, but to a reporter it is just one of many

to be dashed off.

On the Guys and Dolls tour site it is interesting to see that Darius heads the list of

actors playing Sky!

I didn't think that Jonathon was doing any more shows. The booking office said Oxford hadn't confirmed the show - that could be an error - and Oxford would have been the only outstanding shows for him.

After a couple of weeks searching in most charity shops I was thrilled today to pick up a video of the original film Guys and dolls with marlon brando which I didnt think I would find as it was released so long ago. 1.99 bargain. Looking forward to listening to the songs.

Well done, Preston, you found a bargain there.

I paid much more than that for the D.V.D. in the H.M.V. shop because

it was in a set of three - West Side Story [which I already owned],

Guys and Dolls and Fiddler on the Roof [which I have never particularly

liked]. It was interesting to watch G and D. to see what D's role entailed.

I've been hunting for another video that is obsolete .........never thought of

the charity shops.....Thanks Preston I'll try those next.

I have done well on finding videos at charity shops, I really havent turned over to dvds as a whole although I do have some because I have so many videos that I like. Recently a friend asked me to find Little dorritt tv series by charles dickens and I had looked everywhere even ebay but nothing as it was out as a limited edition some while back and then lo and behold there it was, a double version in a charity shop and I have never seen it anywhere else. Car boot sales are another good place to look, loads of videos and dvds there. Both charity shops and car boots are good for cds also.

There were videos for 99p on ebay....but I wanted DVD.

I have to say I only watched 1/2 I lost interest.

BUT...I have seen the West End production and loved it.....well most of it

I just hope Darius can change my feelings for 'Luck be a Lady'.....

Thanks for the ideas, Preston. Hope I find what I'm looking for. Will let you know. :)

There were videos for 99p on ebay I know but the postage was quite high so it didnt seem worth it. However, I have now watched the guys and dolls video and to some extent agree with what spamfritter says, I found marlon brando and frank sinatras performanc es of the songs quite bland. There was no spark there at all the only one who I felt had any real enthusiasm was vivian blaine as miss adelaide. I know this is an old film so I am hoping the new stage version will have more vi-vam as it were., after all that video was made a long time ago.

I think the lesser characters like Benny Southstreet and Nicely Nicely etc. sing their songs with more enthusiasm.

Brando can be excused because he wasn't a singer and had to struggle. Jean Simmons was an actress not a singer but she made a good fist of it.

Vivian Blaine was outstanding because she had starred as Miss Adelaide on Broadway and she more or less played it exactly as she did in the theatre. IMHO she overshadows Sinatra in their scenes together. As a singer, Sinatra was Sinatra, singing in his usual laid back style.

Nathan doesn't need to be a singer - Bob Hoskins half sang, half talked (like Rex Harrison) his way through the songs when he played Nathan.
