Vernon Kay is to host a BBC hunt for the world's greatest Elvis impersonator. The show will seek the 30 best tribute acts. They will then face a sing off before judges in a live studio show, one Elvis will then be crowned No. 1 ELVIS. The show is lined up for BBc 1 this summer to mark the 30th anniversary of the King's death.

Thanks for that, Brian, I hadn't heard about it. Seems like they're following EPE's lead with the impersonator thing. Not sure what I think of this <_< I honestly would rather they concentrate on the man, himself in this special anniversary year. No ETA could ever live up to Elvis! One thing I hope though, is that they have high standards and don't show all the c**p ones  and I hope that not all of them reflect the Las Vegas 'jumpsuit' era and that there's some 50's Elvis ETAs. Let people see that Elvis was cool in the 50s and 60s too

Was just thinking today that in the last few weeks, the BBC have treated us to programmes about a guy who reckons Elvis speaks to him, a guy who reckons he is Elvis and then there's this Impersonator competition  Is it too much to ask for the BBC, in this 30th anniversary year, to give us a programme about the real Elvis being Elvis!! B)

And on the subject of ETA's. On my local news programme tonight, there was an item about the guy who won Stars In Their Eyes as Elvis. He's apparently going to Memphis for the competition. At the end of the item, they gave us a so called piece of trivia in that if the number of Elvis impersonators continue to increase at the present rate, in 10 years time, 1 in 20 of us will be one :o

I'm not sure about this either carole, not really too keen on impersonaters myself. Like you, i would prefer to see the man himself and for TV to show the real elvis concerts. :cheer:

Starting next Saturday, 22nd September - The Worlds Greatest Elvis on BBC 1  As if there's another one as great as Elvis <_<

I know the Elvis world is split on the subject of ETAs. Personally, I would rather listen to the real thing or at least, would prefer the BBC to show the man himself on prime time TV, but I forced myself to watch the second show of this tonight. All I can say is, I Just Can't Help Believin' is my fave Elvis song, but listening to the two guys who attempted the song, not sure about, 'the girl is gonna stay', this one definately left the building  Seriously I have to admit to having seen one of the finalists before, Lee 'Memphis' King, and he did put on a good show. However, there's no way any of them can call themselves the Greatest Elvis because there's only ever been one and he left us 30 years ago :(

I had to come here tonight and just say that the ETA they picked tonight was very good, I really do not like any of the Elvis tribute acts, because I think they make a parody of him and some make me even cringe.

The guy tonight even talked like Elvis, and a very worthy winner. The best I have seen anyway.
