According to that 1st list The Sex Pistols and The Cure were the last British bands that mattered. :( Tell's you something about Rolling Stone magazine. I'm surprised their favourites Marilyn Manson, NIN and Eminem weren't included

I meant the Rolling Stone list.

Dead or Alive introduced the world to Stock Aitkin & Waterman that makes Pete Burns a legend. :D

it wasnt s.a.w first hit though, although 'you spin me round (like a record)' was their first #1. and if dead or alive really was responsable for s.a.w. then thats a good reason NOT to like them!

strange... pete burns was always regarded as a freak... in this weird world people like him are 'legends'... like ozzy osbourne too... never rated either, thought they were clowns.

hmm.. who suggested these tracks?... i think alot of it would be down to personal perspective.

well obv its an American magazine (its got grindhouse on the currect issues cover   ) so obv so many brit band are not gonna get a look seeing as the us is quite insular and only really bothered about itself (apart from a few in NY/LA i suppose). Maybe we should all hijack thelist and make it full of hootie and the blowfish tracks   :puke2:

and this also reminds me of The 100 Records That Changed the World in the new Mojo (with free CD that includes Kraftwerk, Radiohead, Billie Holiday, Al Green, Siouxsie, Big Star etc etc so worth buying!!!)

Note: Q magazine will 'relaunch' next month with a free CD  (this month has a pop quiz book)

As someone pointed out on another forum, what happened to 'Rock Around The Clock' by Bill Haley and the Comets. Like it or not it set the whole rock'pop ball rolling. Surely it belongs at #1 on any list. Also not include was New Kids On The Block "Hanging Tough" which started the whole boyband genre, The Monkees' "Last Train To Clarksville" which started the 'manufactured bubble-gum' genre, The Stooges "Out On The Street" the blueprint for punk and "Autobahn" by Kraftwerk the 1st techno-pop song. In other words the list sucks
i wouldnt agree that nkotb started the boyband thing... i think they were possibly the most advanced at the time but there were other prototypes before them.. brother beyond, bros, even 5 star had all the trappings of a boyband format except some were girls! lol but cheesy pop and dance routines... 5 star.
New Edition were probably the 1st but NKOTB perfected the stereotypes and the marketing. I think Randy Starr was the guy behind both those groups. 5 star were more of a kids/family group. Aussie art-funk band I'm Talking supported 5 star on a tour and the lead singer was told not to show too much cleavage cause it was a family show.

think Mojo went for Little Richard at #1. havent got the mag yet, maybe today?

I'm Talking what an awful name. Almost as bad as Wa Wa Nee
