April 29, 200718 yr Ahhh, now as was waiting for the Top75's to come in, but this is even better! :D I thought FA might have been a bit higher, but hey I guess not. I think it'll be massive when it's released as a single though... Is wierd that all 3 of the Brianstorm b-sides made the Top200 too.
April 29, 200718 yr Author how many bands can manage something like this? already some people start saying "oh only 3 songs in the top 75" , "oh the album sold only 210-230000" , "oh it was only hype"... WHAT? PEOPLE ARE YOU CRAZY?
April 29, 200718 yr how many bands can manage something like this? already some people start saying "oh only 3 songs in the top 75" , "oh the album sold only 210-230000" , "oh it was only hype"... WHAT? PEOPLE ARE YOU CRAZY? I know what you mean. 2 tracks made the Top75 with basically zero promotion whatsoever and that in itself is an amazing achivement. The album sales for the Arctics will most likely be brilliant. The Kaiser Chiefs with Employment sold more than WPSIATWIN, yet it only opened up with sales of just over 150 and they had a #1 single. The Arctics had a #2 single and have easy surpassed that first week total and have 17 tracks in the Top200. :D
May 2, 200718 yr The Beatles had 6 Top 50 Hits - at the same time - in 1976. The Jam had 7 Top 75 Hits, at the same time in 1980 - and they also did it with 13 Hits, at the same time, in 1983. Adam & The Ants had 5 Hits, at the same time in early 1981, & so did John Lennon - also in early 1981. Elvis Presley had 9 Top 50 Hits, at the same time, in 1977. The Arctic Monkeys have got 3 Top 75 Hits at the same time, & people go on as if it is a miracle, & that no one has ever done anything like it before. As to their other 14 entries in the Top 200 - remember, huge Acts in former Decades did not have a Top 200 to Chart in. Nor could you Chart with Down Loads only, until this Year. It is obvious that had a Top 200 been around in previous Decades - and Down Loads - then Acts like The Beatles, Queen, & ABBA etc. would all have had numerous entries in the Top 200, off each Album. For example, in late 1980, ABBA, ('Super Trouper'), became the first Act to have a Million Advance Orders of a UK Album - and with that kind of interest in them, it is pretty certain that several of the Tracks off it would have been able to reach the Top 200 as Down Loads - had a Top 200 existed, & had Down Loads existed. Likewise for The Beatles, when 'Beatles For Sale' had 750,000 UK Orders, in 1964. The Arctic Monkeys are just able to take advantage of 2007 Chart Rules etc. It is nothing special really. People should check out UK Chart Books, rather than falling for Media hype..... Most of the 17 Arctic Monkeys Top 200 entries only sold a few thousand each, anyhow - none were big sellers - check!!!!
May 2, 200718 yr Author u r wrong Zeus n you cant get the point of these posts... we r not sayin that the AM made a record or anythin or is somethin special to have these songs in the top75/top200. we r sayin that w r happy to see our favourite band doin well in the charts...you know its so good to see great albums or tracks in the chart.... btw , i m glad about all the bands you mention in your posts...beatles , jam , abba , queen n well ...the arctic monkeys...up with the giants?definitely n i dont think its too early to tell with these 2 great albums.
May 2, 200718 yr It's special for a band nowadays to have that many tracks inside the Top200 or whatever. Times have changed. The music scene has evolved. Back when the Beatles broke the record you could only fet their tracks on vinyl or whatever, not illegal downloading is about. Songs would sell a lot more than they currently do at present if illegel downloading was completley banned. The fact is that, I don't think this feat will be achived by any band or artist for a lone time now, and yeah they haven't broken any records or anything, but it's certainly a remarkable achivement for a band/artist in the current market...
May 2, 200718 yr Author it's certainly a remarkable achivement for a band/artist in the current market... especially a young indie band

I don't see any Indie-label bands/artists in this post, apart from Arctic Monkeys. You have to remember, this band are working for a label that until recently were administered from the proprietor's flat and had approx 15 employees. They are an INDIE BAND on an INDIE LABEL. ALL the bands/artists you mention were on MAJOR LABELS and, I suspect, way further than 18 months into their careers when these 'amazing' things happened to them. You say don't fall for the hype but a lot of your post is misleading in that it is not comparing like with like. Different times, different circumstances blah blah blah.

I never looked at it that way. Domino are a tiny Indie label and even a Top40 hit would be considered a major achivement never mind a million selling album and an album that is well on the way to selling over a quarter of a million album within the first 2 weeks of it's release! Definatley a major feat by the Monkeys, even if the 3 tracks in the end only did go Top75. But to add to that FA, is still in the Top50 of iTunes, and that's over probably over 2 months until it's release date, even if it has been getting the odd play on the Radio stations because of Favourite Worst Nightmare's success.
May 3, 200718 yr Number 4 in Canada. Well Brianstorm seems to have done very good worldwide. :D I hope the album sales will be good across the globe, as that was maybe the only small downfall of the debut album...that most of the overall sales came from the UK.

Don't forget that all the Beatles and Jam songs that were all in the charts had probably already been singles, had their promotion and everyone knew them. Apart from Brianstorm and Dancefloor all of these tracks are brand new and no one's heard them before!
