Well Missy Higgins doesn't break the No.1 habit-of-a-lifetime in that she

debuts at No.1 then falls off the top spot the following week. "Steer" falls

from 1 to 5 this week, probably due in part to the fact that her new album "On a

Clear Night" was released on Saturday (28th April) and most people would have

been wanting to buy that after initially buying the single the previous week.

In falling off the top, Avril Lavigne rebounds to the top spot with her

second No.1 single "Girlfriend", she also climbs to the No.1 spot in the U.S.

this week. The last act to jump back to the No.1 position after initially

peaking there was 54 weeks ago (April 17, 2006) when Youth Group's version of

"Forever Young" spent it's second and final week at the top. The last Solo

female act to do this was back in July 2004 when Frankee's answer song "F.U.

Right Back" climbed back for a third and final week at No.1.

The biggest climber within the Top 10 this week is the No.3 song, "Candyman"

by Christina Aguilera up from No.7. It now becomes the highest placed single

from her former No.1 album "Back to Basics", as the previous two made No.6

(Ain't No Other Man) and No.9 (Hurt). Also climbing back into the top where it

originally debuted, and has a new highest position is "Glamorous" by Fergie.

There are only three new entries to the Top 50 this week, the highest of

which is at No.27 from Ne*Yo, "Because of You". It's the title track from his

new album which is out this week, and becomes his third Top 50 single. The

previous two were "So Sick" (No.4, April 2006) and "Sexy Love" (No.14, July

2006).

The third single from this week's No.31 album "Sam's Town" debuts at No.32

this week, it's "Read My Mind" by The Killers, and follows on from the No.10

single "When You Were Young" (October 200g) and the recent No.22 song "Bones"

(February 2007).

After 24 weeks in the Top 50, 30 Seconds to Mars' debut single "The Kill

(Bury Me)" falls out this week after peaking at No.20. Now their second single

"From Yesterday" debuts at No.34, and is taken from their second album "A

Beautiful Lie" (No.39 this week).

Spending it's fourth week at the No.1 Album position is the fifth No.1 album

by Silverchair. It now eclipses their previous best effort of 3 weeks for their

debut album "Frogstomp", and takes their tally of accumulated weeks at No.1 to

10 weeks, but it's unlikely that it will stay at the top of the charts, as Missy

Higgins, Jimmy Barnes and Michael Buble have new albums out this week, and

Mother's Day is coming soon, not saying that Silverchair don't appeal to

Mother's, but Missy is more likely to.

Last February saw the debut album for The Arctic Monkeys "Whatever People

Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" come into the charts at No.1, and 14 months later

their second album this week debuts at No.2, "Favourite Worst Nightmare".

Thirsty Merc's self-titled debut album hit No.15 in February 2005 eventually

achieving Platinum status, and spawning five Top 50 singles. Now with their

sixth Top 50 single "20 Good Reasons" sitting in the Top 10 for sixth week at

No.7 this week, their second album debuts at No.4, "Slideshows".

Kate Ceberano has done Jazz, Pop, Dance, Rock and a varied assortment of

styles during her career, and with this being the Grand Final of "Dancing With

the Stars" she is one of the finalists, her new album "Nine Lime Avenue" debuts

at No.14, this album containing covers of 80's pop songs that Kate likes.

Debuting at No.22 is "Solo: The Last Recordings" by the recently departed

Australian Rock Icon Billy Thorpe, an album of songs that he was working on

completing just before his heart-attack.

This is a list of the No.1 albums in Australia for the past 42 years.
