Posted May 3, 200718 yr The 70’s were now a distant memory and very few artists from them were still around in 1983. A few hang around including Slade who returned with My oh my. Rod Stewart who got to no.1 with Baby Jane. David Bowie was back with new songs & a No.1 Let’s dance, China girl and Modern love. Robert Plant had a hit with Big log. Elton John with I guess that’s why they call it the blues, I’m still standing. The Stones were Undercover of the night. Duran Duran & Spandau Ballet both hit the top this year. Duran with Is there something I should know, other hits Union of the Snake. The Spans with True, other hits Communication & Gold. Michael Jackson had his best year musically, with Billie Jean, Beat it and Thriller. Siouxsie sang Dear Prudence. Echo & Bunnymen sang The Cutter. Orange Juice said Rip it up. The Human League (Keep feeling) fascination. Madness songs were Tomorrow’s just another day, Wings of a dove, The sun & the rain. Freeeze sang IOU. Public Image Limited sang This is not a love song. U2 finally arrived in the big time with New Year’s Day & Two hearts beat as one. The Police split up this year and went out with Every breath you take & Wrapped around your finger. May 3, 200718 yr Lotus Eaters' First Picture of You is a beautiful, classic single. New Order were proving there IS life after death, and Altered Images released the best single of their career (Bring Me Closer). But '83, for me, was marked by the way-too-soon dissolution of Yazoo. Splitting as they were number one in the album charts, I still, even now, think they could've been 10 times as popular as Vince's follow-on band, the horrible Erasure.....
