Posted April 19, 200619 yr info from yesasia: Japan's finest actor/writer/director/comedian, Beat Takeshi Kitano, returns in his latest film, Takeshis'. Starring not one, but two Kitanos in this festival favorite, Takeshis' follows the superstar as he plays himself, struggling to cope with the highs and lows of international success and stardom. However, there is another Takeshi Kitano - a humble convenience store clerk who moonlights as an actor - also played by Kitano! The clerk dreams of becoming as famous as his namesake, but his infatuation might be moving closer to obsession and his methods are becoming increasingly more dangerous and unhinged. Takeshis' is a profound, surreal and highly entertaining self-reflexive comedy from one of Japan's greatest living filmmakers. Fans of Kitano's work will also be interested in the new Hong Kong release of Blood And Bones. Definitely not for the faint-hearted, the actor gives a true powerhouse performance as a tough Korean immigrant growing up in Japan. Violent, uncompromising, and utterly compelling, the film is a great insight into postwar Japanese society. Also newly released is the Kitano Takeshi Collection, featuring ten of his best films in one boxset, including Zatoichi, Boiling Point, Sonatine, and Dolls think i should import this? or do you know when it is coming to the UK? I so want to see this!!!
April 20, 200619 yr I love Kitano's stuff, he is one of the world's few truly brilliant film-makers, I cant say I've ever seen a film of his that I didnt like, he always manages to come up with interesting and unique takes on ideas and themes... His version of "Zatoichi" was fantastic and inspired...
