Faster Kill Pussycat scores a rare double, as it is also currently number one in the US, in Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play Chart.  Another record that topped the Hot Dance Club Play Chart in the US – Everytime We Touch by Cascada – jumps to the top of the Commerical Pop Chart, where it has a slender lead of less than 1% over Sensitivity by Shapeshifters ft Chic.  Released in the US on the independent Robbins label, Everytime We Touch has also become one of very dance records to be a substantial hit on the Hot 100 in recent years, and has thus far spent 26 weeks on the chart, peaking at number 10. It is one of the top downloads of the year, with 772,366 digital sales to date. Cascada’s album has also done well, selling 128,821 copies in three months. Cascada comprises German producers Yanou and DJ Manian and 25 year old vocalist Natalie Horler, born in Bonn to UK parents, and Everytime We Touch is scheduled for release here next month on All Around The World. Finally, there is no change at the top of the Urban Club Chart, where Christina Milian continues to rule the roost with Say I. It has peaked, however, and is under great pressure from the chasing group, especially T.I.’s Why You Wanna, which improves 5-2, and Pussycat Dolls’ fourth single Buttons, which explodes 15-3. T.I. is only 6% behind, while Pussycat Dolls are currently 9% adrift of Milian.  Â

The track, recently number two in Billboard’s US Hot Dance Tracks chart, has a 7% lead at the top of the Commercial Pop Chart over new runner-up Jenna Drey’s double A-sided Killin’ Me/Why Should I Believe, which actually went one better in the US, rising to the very top of the Billboard list. Both the Lola and Jenna Drey promos include a mix by New York-based mixer Josh Harris, who also worked on Danielle Bollinger’s When The Broken Hearted Love Again (up 13-7 this week) and former M People vocalist Heather Small’s Radio On, which is bubbling just outside the chart this week. Records which are number one on our club charts are typically, number one on numerous individual DJ chart returns but Pussycat Dolls’ Buttons manages to reach the top of the Urban Chart this week even though it wasn’t number one on any of the individual charts sent in by DJs and used for its compilation. Buttons – the upcoming fourth single from the Las Vegas burlesque troop’s debut album PCD – is more of a hare than a tortoise, and won its position at the top of the chart by a margin of less than 1% over T.I.’s Why You Wanna by dint of consistently high rankings from DJs which made it not only the most frequently reported title from the urban chart panel but also the biggest accumulator of points and, therefore, number one. Of the Pussycat Dolls’ previous singles, both Don’t Cha and Beep also topped the Urban Club Chart, but Stickwitu wasn’t serviced to clubs.  Â

Aside from getting support from the vast majority of DJs sending returns to Music Week, Moonlight Party has been played by the likes of Dave Pearce and Judge Jules on Radio One, DJ Tiesto and Matt Darey.  Meanwhile, Dario G jump to the top of the Commercial Pop Chart with their remake of Ring Of Fire, a song most famously identified with late country legend Johnny Cash. The Dario G version is in the same celebratory fashion as their Carnaval De Paris, a top five hit marking the 1998 World Cup in France. Their version of Ring Of Fire is similarly said to be their Unofficial way of marking the current football festivities in Germany. Oddly enough, the Liverpool team’s 2006 FA Cup Final anthem was another version of Ring Of Fire by the Boot Room Allstars – Tim Speed, Apollo 4-40 and former Echo & The Bunnymen vocalist Ian McCulloch. It sold fairly well but wasn’t eligible for the singles chart as it was released only as a download. Finally, completing a graceful 21-10-1 ascent of the chart, Mary J Blige is back on top of the Urban Chart with her latest single Enough Cryin’. The follow-up to Blige’s recent number two sales hit One – a collaboration with U2 – it also bears a “featuring†credit, in this case Brook-Lyn, even though its actually a solo record from Blige. How so? Because Brook-lyn is Blige’s very own rapping alter-ego, having been introduced on her Touch It collaboration with Busta Rhymes. Enough Cryin’ turned in a 98% surge in Urban Chart support last week and ended up 4% up on the Pussycat Dolls’ Buttons and 7% ahead of T.I.’s Why You Wanna, which dipped 1-2 and 2-3 respectively, even though they both also improved their support significantly.   Â

It’s Swedish house producer Axwell’s second number one on the latter chart in seven weeks: he is also 50% of Supermode, whose Tell Me Why topped the list in June. A former Essential New Tune on Pete Tong’s Radio One show, Watch The Sunrise has yet to really make much of an impression more generally on radio, but its club profile could barely be stronger, and it has many other celebrity DJ supporters, including Pete Heller, Fergie, The Hoxton Whores, Jon Pleased Wimmin, K-Klass, Beginerz, Michael Gray, Redanka and the Soul Avengerz.  It continues Positiva’s hot steak, which has seen the EMI imprint notch four number one club hits already this year, the others being Deep Dish’s Dreams, Shapeshifters’ Incredible and Teamsters’ Feels Like Love. After enjoying its busiest week of the year last week, the Urban Chart settles down again, with a same again for the top three of Pussycat Dolls, Mary J Blige and Chris Brown, and just one new entry, that coming from Cassie’s Me & U at number 27, the Pussycat Dolls’ Buttons has a 14% lead at the top, and is number one for the fifth week in total and fourth week in a row. The chart’s biggest gainer is Christina Aguilera’s Ain’t No Other Man, which rockets 30-7, with support increasing by exactly 200%. Aguilera’s single, the first from her new album Back To Basics, is also making its presence felt on our other charts, debuting at number 74 on the Upfront list and number 16 on the Commercial Pop rundown.  Â

Winning the battle for chart honours, Supafly Inc’s Moving Too Fast is based around an instrumental phrase from Phil Collins’ 1989 monster Another Day In Paradise, while Rockefeller follow at number two with Do It 2Nite, which is a filtered house remake of The SOS Band’s excellent 1980 single, Take Your Time (Do It Right), which, although a classic song that topped the club chart, sadly never went higher than number 51 in the sales chart. Like Rogue Traders, who topped the chart a couple of weeks ago, Supafly Inc are UK duo based in Australia, comprising Panos Liassi (Mr P) and Andrew Tumi (One). Rockefeller are a Dutch Trio, who were also behind the Beatfreakz hit Somebody’s Watching Me, which topped both the Upfront and Commercial Pop Charts earlier this year. Although it narrowly fails to top the Upfront Club Chart – its less than 6% behind Moving Too Fast – Do It 2Nite moves 2-1 on the Commercial Pop Chart, where it trades places with Axwell’s Watch The Sunrise. Another thing that the Rockefeller and Supafly Inc records have in common is that their promos include a mix by Ian Carey, who is the most prominent mixer on the Upfront Club Chart at present, also supplying mixes for Friday Night by Sex Machine ft Shena (up 24-8), Borderline by Michael Gray ft Shelley Poole (10-17), City Life by Fallen Angels (on the Boss Records sampler 19-19), Jetsetter (new at 47) and Miss Broadway by Belle Epoque (44-76).  After embracing six new entries a fortnight ago – its highest tally to that point in any week this year – the Urban Chart is even more active this week, with eight new entries and a new number one. Justin Timberlake, Field Mob ft Ciara, Ghostface Killah ft Ne-Yo, Nelly Furtado ft Timbaland, Alesha, Obie Trice ft Akon, Black Eyed Peas and Kelis ft Too Short provide the debuts, while Christina Aguilera’s Ain’t No Other Man completes a speedy 30-7-1 ascent of the chart, pipping Busta Rhymes, who climbs 4-2 with I Love My Chick.   Â

Featuring mixes by Soul Seekerz and les Visiteurs as well as by The Basement Jaxx themselves, it is the dynamic first single from their upcoming new album Crazy Itch Radio. Although it is not noted on the promo, Hush Boy features the vocals of Vula, who last performed lead for the Brixton boys on On My Gosh, which reached number two on the Upfront Club Chart and number eight on the sales chart last year. Hush Boy is set for release in three weeks (August 28) and looks set to provide Basement Jaxx with their 17th Top 40 sales hit – a run which started in 1997 with Fly Life, which reached number 19, and includes the Top 10 hits Rendez-Vu, Red Alert, Romeo, Where’s Your Head At and the aforementioned On My Gosh. Hush Boy had an unexpectedly wide margin of victory on the Upfront Chart, beating its closest challenger – Joey Negro’s remixes of Bob Marley’s Exodus – by a margin of more than 16%. Meanwhile, Club’s Deep Inside races 25-1 on the Commerical Pop Chart, signalling another success for All Around The World, the Blackburn-based indie which is also celebrating its latest Top 10 sales hit this week, courtesy of Cascada’s Everytime We Touch, which was itself a number one record on the Commercial Club Chart eight weeks ago. Deep Inside is a funky vocal track that uses the guitar riff from Red Hot Chili Peppers’ version of Ohio Players’ Love Rollercoaster as its starting point and has received support from the like of Bimbo Jones, The Beathiefs, Mark Wilkinson, M&S, and The Trophy Twins. Finally, there is no change at the top of the Urban Chart, where Christina Aguilera strengthens her lead with Ain’t No Other Man. Busta Rhymes and Beyonce continue at two and three respectively, as Justin Timberlake’s SexyBack powers 15-4, after doubling its support in a week. Kelis – up 29-7 with Bossy – and Nelly Furtado, who improves 24-11 with Promiscuous also register improvements of more than 100% in their support, while Field Mob (up 22-14) and Alesha (26-17) also make strong progress. Â

They do so, ironically, with I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’, which jumps 7-1 on both charts. The first single from their eagerly awaited second album Ta-Dah, it is promoed in mixes by Paper Faces and Linus Loves. Five hit singles were pulled from Scissor Sisters’ self-titled debut album, but not all of them were given full club servicing, and those that did were unlucky to face tough opponents. As a result, only the last of the quintet, Filthy/Gorgeous topped the Upfront Chart, while their best placing on the Commerical Pop Chart before I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ was number three, a position achieved by both Mary and Filthy/Gorgeous.  There were 12 dance songs in the Top 40 of the sales chart last week for the first time in years, and there is a great deal more activity on the dance charts than for some time, with plenty of new entries to all published charts. Sometimes it is a major struggle to find 10 emerging club tracks to fill the Upfront Chart breakers list, but in the current climate it would have been easy to produce a list of 30 this week. In the cause of moderation, we won’t publish that many, but we’ll double our usual list, with the following 10 tracks, in addition to those published elsewhere on this page, all getting considerable and increasing support: Janet Jackson’s Call On Me, Miss Sin’s Ladies Night, Pink’s U & Ur Hand, Andy Boph’s Everybody Now, Shena’s Electrosexual, Mask’s Waking The Dream, Beyonce’s Déjàvu, Afroganic’s Ghana Sweet, Fergie’s London Bridge, and Medusa’s Hail 2 The DJ. Christina Aguilera’s Ain’t No Other Man was number one on the Urban Chart for three weeks, but it slides to number five this week, changing places with Nelly Furtado ft Timberland’s Promiscuous. Clearly shaping up to be a major multi-format hit, Promiscuous has been serviced in mixes by Ralphi Rosario as well as its original R&B mix, and consequently is number two on the Commerical Pop Chart and a new entry at number 36 on the Upfront Chart. Â

In it’s original incarnation, My Life boasted a wholly original vocal from Chanel herself built around a recurrent instrumental sample from the Crusaders hit Street Life but on the current promo only the original 2005 mix and the Grant Nelson mix use Street Life, while the other mixes – by M-Factor, Fonzerelli, Haji & Emanuel and TMS – build a new groove around Chanel’s singing. Although My Life was eagerly supported by Pete Tong last time out, it never really expanded its base beyond the clubs, and peaked at 109 when commercially released. It’s radio profile is considerably higher this time around, with a Radio One C-listing, massive support from the Galaxy network of stations, Kiss 100 FM, and a fair few others. The promotional video is also attracting attention, and was aired 105 times on TV stations monitored by chart providers Music Control last week, consequently moving 69-49 on the chart.  My Life’s runner-up on both the Upfront and Commerical Pop charts is French duo Geystar’s Under The Fuse Of Love. Jumping 8-2 upfront and 19-2 commercial, it’s another record that is threatening to cross over with plays on Radio One from Dave Pearce, Judge Jules and Pete Tong.  Once again this week, the number of fast rising hits beyond the Top 40 of the Upfront Chart is sufficient to warrant mention of an extra 10 breakers, these being: Love Foolosophy by Jamiroquai, Surfacing by Belle, My Brother Chris by The Apartment, I Call It Love by Lionel Richie, Everybody (All Over The World) by Philtre Phreeks vs FPI Project, Move Your Body (Can You Dance) by Marshall Jefferson & Kenny ‘Jammin’ Jason, Raise Your Hand (U Got To) bu Ike & Tina Turner, Cold As Ice by Nathan ft Ricky Ross, Stimulate/Real High by Emjay & The Atari Babies and Living On Video by Pakito.  Finally, although Nelly Furtado ft Timberland’s Promiscuous increases its support slightly, it loses control of the Urban Chart to Beyonce ft Jay-Z’s Déjàvu, which has had a slow but smooth rise to the chart summit, increasing its support for eight weeks in a row.    Â
