Posted May 7, 200718 yr THE KOOKS have slammed fellow British rockers ARCTIC MONKEYS for failing to acknowledge them at industry events. The Naive hitmakers often appear on the same stage as the Arctic Monkeys, but The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard reveals the band are usually rude. He says, "It's getting tiresome. We've met them loads of times but every time they act as if they don't even recognise us. I don't get it." Source: Contactmusic.com Thoughts then? :o
May 7, 200718 yr Well maybe that's because the Arctics are streets ahead of them in terms of how good their music is? The Kooks' next album probably won't do that well I think.
May 7, 200718 yr Author Well maybe that's because the Arctics are streets ahead of them in terms of how good their music is? The Kooks' next album probably won't do that well I think. That's the impression I got. The Kooks think that they're the same as the Arctics, but they're really not. The Arctics get MUCH more media coverage and hype about them, and i'm guessing that at these media events just about everyone wants to talk to them. Well they've a lot to live up to. Their debt sold a million ao they'll need a damm good lead single, to be able to match the sales of the first album.
May 7, 200718 yr  You can imagine Arctic Monkeys doing that It's probably because they feel The Kooks are doing the same sort of music that nearly every other indie band is doing, they're nothing special I think The Kooks are quite good though
May 7, 200718 yr Strange thing for them to come out with, though, isn't it? It may well be true but it makes The Kooks just sound a bit immature, really, don't you think? I enjoyed their songs at first but bloody 'ell, that singer's voice has really started to grate on me now. I have some sympathy for the people who criticise Turner's voice because he hasn't got what you would call a 'proper' singing voice at all. Thing I love about Turner's 'singing' style is the fact that he isn't trying to sing by putting on a silly voice like the Kooks bloke does (Borell's another one of those who's voice sounds so 'fake'). I think this is the reason why Turner invariably sounds spot on live - he's not trying to be someone he's not.

I liked The Kooks to begin with and they churned out a few songs that will define 2006 last year, but i've really gone off them of late. But with The Kooks I always get this "upper class" impression, like they've got to where they are through money and they're a bit snobbish, well i've always got that impression from them in interviews, compared to the Arctics who are from working class families up North. Alex's voice is unique. I mean it's not exactly brilliant, but it's unique, and he's not trying to somebody else.
May 7, 200718 yr Author Kooks > Arctic monkeys :funky: The Kooks have no sense of originality about them whatsoever though, the Arctics do, and they sing about the seaside, were as the Arctics sing about The Wizard Of Oz, amongst other things. ^_^
May 7, 200718 yr I can't stand The Kooks, they're quite possibly the most unoriginal and generic band I have ever heard. :(
May 7, 200718 yr That's the problem.. it's no THEIR accent! They're from Brighton for god's sake yet Luke puts on that voice for some reason  They have a few good songs but they're not that great. That's exactly why I like the Arctics so much and quite a lot of british bands, people are actually remembering where they're from and not putting on an American accent just because that's 'what singers do' etc.
May 7, 200718 yr Author About Alex's voice, has anyone else heard the 'Ravey, Ravey Club' demo? His voice sounds so different on that, if you compare it to the Favourite Worst Nightmare era.
May 7, 200718 yr I doubt it's anything personal, why should The Kooks expect AM to just lavish attention on them..? It's not as if they're bloody Morrissey or summat ffs.... The Kooks have to be the absolute epitome of everything that is bland and awful about the current "indie" scene tbh.... I'm no real fan of AM as you know, but Christ, musically they're way more advanced and certainly have more credibility than The Kooks... And yes, the whole "posh boys putting on regional accents" thing is monumentally tiresome and totally fake.... I got seriously pissed off with Blur when they did the whole "Parklife" Mockney GEEEEEEEZZAAAHHHHHHH!!!! schtick as well
May 8, 200718 yr About Alex's voice, has anyone else heard the 'Ravey, Ravey Club' demo? His voice sounds so different on that, if you compare it to the Favourite Worst Nightmare era. I think he was 17 when they recorded that and it's just plain weird hearing him sing in that pseudo-American accent, isn't it? It can be found on www.arctic-monkeys.com , btw.
May 8, 200718 yr Maybe if the Kooks went up and introduced themselves? I might be able to pick Puke Pritchard out of a line-up including members of The View and The Fratellis (he'd be the one in the stupid f***ing hat) but I wouldn't have a clue what the others look like. Arctic Monkeys are in a different stratosphere of popularity, coupled with the fact that they're down to earth blokes who probably stick together at these events and aren't desperate to be seen with anyone famous and in the pages of Heat magazine - hello Mr Pritchard.
May 8, 200718 yr they're down to earth blokes who probably stick together at these events and aren't desperate to be seen with anyone famous and in the pages of Heat magazine ..Except for certain members of Girls Aloud though....  I refer you to Rooney's sig....
May 8, 200718 yr ..Except for certain members of Girls Aloud though....  I refer you to Rooney's sig.... Well they were hardly desperate to be seen there  though so much c**p was made up after that as so many people don't get their sarcasm even though they've shown that side of themselves so many times now  Did anyone see about them in America the other week? They were being chased after by all these 'cool, lets make sure I get seen with the big stars' famous people like Lindsay Lohan and Kimberley Stewart and had to fend them off.
May 8, 200718 yr I can't stand The Kooks, they're quite possibly the most unoriginal and generic band I have ever heard. :( totally agree.i cant stand The Kooks n their attitude...
May 8, 200718 yr like arctic monkeys could give a damn!!!! maybe the kooks should take the hint and get over it!!
May 8, 200718 yr Author ..Except for certain members of Girls Aloud though....  I refer you to Rooney's sig.... There was a reason for that though. :P They handed them one of the awards they won at the NME awards so it's only natural that they should at least intergrate with them for a bit.
