I just bought an Elvis songbook (Elvis, Elvis, Elvis 100 Greatest Hits) and one of the songs listed is called Blue Guitar I've never heard of it qand it's not on Dave's excellent list. It's by a British singer/songwriter/comedian Sheb Wooley written 1954.

1st line is

Blue guitar you're lonely too.

Any Ideas?

That's a new one to me, Martin. Just had a quick look in a couple of my books and can't see any mention of the song, but I'll have a proper look tomorrow and see what I can find out. Dave is much more of an expert than me so he's the one to ask. Let's hope the 18s is back up very soon ;)

Just found this, Martin ;) Someone had asked this question on one of those All Expert question and answer sites:

I am trying to find a recording of "Blue Guitar" which is included in the songbook "Elvis Presley: Elvis Elvis Elvis 100 Greatest Hits". It was written by Sheb Wooley in 1954. This song is not on any of the internet lyrics databases for Elvis' songs. Justin Hayward and John Lodge (Moody Blues)have a song called "Blue Guitar, which is track 11 on their 1975 "Blue Jays" album. I think that it is probably not the same song.
and this was the answer:

The only recordings of this song that I know of are Sheb Wooley's, which appeared on the MGM album "Sheb Wooley" in 1956 and was issued as a single in 1964 release, and a 1992 recording by The Brother Boys. The Justin Hayward song is atotally different one.

"Blue Guitar" was certainly never recorded by Elvis Presley, but the publishing rights may well have been owned by one of Elvis' publishing companies, hence its mistaken inclusion inclusion in an Elvis songbook.

I'll carry on checking though, just in case I can find anything else out B)

Thanks Carole I've emailed the publisher for some details. I made a bit of a mistake mixing up the british Shep Wooley with the American Sheb[ Wooley - but still
Looks like the lyrics I found for the song weren't the same ones, Martin  Let's hope the publishers are able to shed more light on this mystery.
