May 11, 200718 yr Author I have to agree with you all and predict Ukraine will win. Belarus, Serbia, and Russia should make into top five also. Of the Western countries I think Finland has a good chance making it into top ten (especially now that all Northern countries in the semifinal failed 2 qualify) and Sweden could be the Dj Bobo of the final. Of the countries that did qualify I think Moldova, Latvia, and Macedonia will rank the lowest. Of the big four I think Spain could go either way...be the surprise country battling for a top five finish or end up in the bottom five. France probably will end up around 15th and UK finishing around where Daz did last year. I think Germany will finish last in the competition (second time in three years) and could even manage to score zero points. Bosnia will loose loads of "ethnic votes" for Serbia and might struggle. And of the countries straight through to the final, I predict little or no success to Romania, Lithuania, and Armenia Finland aren't Western. :P But I do agree with most there.
May 11, 200718 yr Author This seems to be turning out to be the worst contest in history. Almost half are Eastern European countries. Most of these (with the exception of Russia) are rubbish. This only goes to help Scooch. One problem is that all these countries will vote for each other. Some of the best are not even in the final. Switzerland, Andorra, Norway, Denmark. I feel like boycotting it this year. Something really needs sorting out. The big four who put the money in should get together and really sort it out. Why should the big four pour all that money into the show just to be left out in the cold by the former eastern block countries. These countries wouldn't know what music is if it hit them on the head. The west have sent $h!t songs this year, we can't blame neighbourly voting when the top ten is all east-bound...

May 11, 200718 yr The reason why (in my opinion) the west of europe is getting left out is because they have be watching the contest adn taking part in it alot longer than the east.. so alot of places in the west didn't bother watching the semi final because they don't see the point in it, thus why their countries don't get through... i think russia should win this year but if this contest wants to go on (with 4 western countries money) something needs to be done about the unfair eastern voting... a limitation of countries votiing?
May 11, 200718 yr or the west countries need to start to unfairly voting for each other... but that won't happen because most hate each other  also when they were showing the other finalists last night.. did anyone else here the uk get booed.. why doesn't europe like us
May 11, 200718 yr or the west countries need to start to unfairly voting for each other... but that won't happen because most hate each other  also when they were showing the other finalists last night.. did anyone else here the uk get booed.. why doesn't europe like us  Don't forget that most of the countries in the east still have a lot of animosity - it isn't just the matter of simply 'voting for your neighbour', it's been just over 10 years since the Balkan Wars ended - as I've said many times, it's probably mainly down to similar culture/music taste, and the fact that many of these countries send songs more representative of their culture than others (i.e. compare Serbia's entry this year to the UK's - ethnic ballad from Serbia, will do/did VERY well locally due to cultural similarities ^_^ whereas the UK's entry style hasn't been seen in action since 2000 and is in no way representative of our culture/music taste ;)) And it's not that Europe doesn't like us (although I can't imagine Iraq helped, although I doubt that's why we do so badly as drunk people across Europe don't vote at 11pm on the basis of a war compared to a song ) more that Europe probably doesn't like the song ;) And anyway, that wasn't EUROPE booing, that was the crowd, and as the crowd's very good reception of Switzerland showed last night the crowd's opinion of the song is not representative of Europe's opinion
May 11, 200718 yr I think one reason is why so many Eastern countries qualified is immigration combined with neighbour voting. There are so many immigrants from Eastern European countries in Western Europe (and not vice versa) and since it seems that the people in the West are pretty lazy voters especially in the semifinal, the immigrant vote can shift many Western countries votes towards East. I mean I doubt anyone is gonna disagree with my claim that there certainly is a connection between the huge Turkish population in Germany and Germany giving Turkey 12 points every year. Anyway, it seems that Western countries will not do well in the final either. I still have little hope for Finland and Spain (and wouldn't even mind UK doing ok), Sweden I think will flop and Germany, like I've said before, finish last. Actually even the mediocre song song from Greece is better winner IMO than the Eastern songs.
May 11, 200718 yr I think the only way to solve such complaints would be to merge certain voting blocs - the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania) between them send one song, Slovenia, Croatia, Vojovdina (northern Serbia) and B&H merge to make Northern Former Yugoslavia, who send one song between them all, and the rest of Serbia (incl. Kosovo), Albania, FYR Macedonia and Montenegro form to make Southern Former Yugoslavia, thereby solving two problems - the voting blocs, and reducing the amount of entries ^_^
May 11, 200718 yr Eastern europe should go and get their own eurovision song contest *humph*! They had one at one point arranged by the USSR, don't think it lasted very long
May 11, 200718 yr Author Well... here's how I think it'll finish.UkraineHungarySerbiaBulgariaRussiaBelarusLatviaMoldovaFYR MacedoniaGreeceSpainSloveniaGeorgiaTurkeyFranceUnited KingdomIrelandSwedenBosnia-Herz.ArmeniaRomaniaFinlandLithuaniaGermany
May 11, 200718 yr Finland aren't Western. :P But I do agree with most there. hmm, I have to disagree with that. As far as I know Finland is part of Scandinavia/Northern countries and is as Western as UK (well, not on the map but it is counted as Western). I mean at least I was taught in my geography class that the North the West/East barrier is the Finland/Russia boarder.
May 11, 200718 yr Author I'll emphasise what I think again; the Western countries got eliminated this year because the songs simply weren't good enough!!! Ireland got through last year, because they had a good song, and Belgium did a Selma. There will always be an upset in the semi-final, and that was Switzerland this year. The only other two songs worthy of going through from the west were the Netherlands and Andorra. Whilst Edsilia gave a good performance for the Netherlands, it wasn't memorable enough to gain a very large number of votes around Europe, and certainly wasn't in the top ten best songs of the night. Andorra WILL have had a good few number of votes from the UK and Ireland - we'll find out on Sunday, but it isn't what the rest of Europe likes. Portugal's song was $h!t, Norway's isn't as good as most who went through and Denmark's is just dated and dire. That is all the west sent for this year's semi, so I don't see why we can blame political voting again.
May 11, 200718 yr Author Finland are further east than the Balkans and even some of the Baltic countries.
May 11, 200718 yr I like that idea tyron and also split the uk up to scotland, wales, england,N ireland to give us an advantages :kink:
