Posted May 9, 200718 yr As previously reported here on esctoday.com, DR's financial problems has lead to worries that Denmark might withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest. A couple of weeks ago they however confirmed their support for the competition. It now appears that they may not be allowed to enter next year with the threat of expulsion from the EBU. According to politiken.dk the problem is an EBU rule stating that the broadcaster must show at least 200 hours of sport a year, sports news not included. Due to the financial problems the Danish broadcaster is facing they have decided to cut down on all major sports events and is working towards selling their rights for events they have already bought. EBU director Bjørn Erichsen told politiken.dk that “if DR chose to remove the sport they will most likely no longer be a member of the EBU“. Despite the fact that DR will no longer be able to live up to the 200 hours a year of sport their media director Lars Grarup don't think it will have any consequences: EBU tells me that they will not kick out existing members". Stay tuned on esctoday.com for more news on this situation. ESC Today
May 9, 200718 yr That's bloody harsh! :o Why on earth do they need to show that specified amount of time of sport?
May 9, 200718 yr Author 200 hours isn't that much I shouldn't think... I bet the BBC show quite a lot more than that tbh.

May 12, 200718 yr Actually I have a question Do Lebanon get involved next year. I remember last year they were expelled or something happened They were expelled in 2005 for refusing to show Israel's entry, they won't re-enter until 2009 at least, and probably won't enter then unless Israel pull out ;)
May 12, 200718 yr Author Lebanon will never enter as long as Israel are in. When Israel won in 1980something, Lebanese TV stopped broadcasting it, showed a bunch of flowers and told viewers that Belgium had won!
