Singles

Avril Lavigne remains stationed at the top spot for another week with Girlfriend, while Christina Aguilera is hot on the pursuit of chart glory, moving up a spot to #2 with Candyman. After her performance at the MTV Australian Video Music Awards recently, Fergie has shot up five places to #4 to mark the highest position for Glamorous. 20 Good Reasons is still bubbling in the Top 10 after 7 weeks, leaving Thirsty Merc at #6 this week. Last but not least KT Tunstall’s Suddenly I See makes its return to the Top 10 at #10. As for the rest of the bunch, it is more spills than thrills as they drop a few places.

LEAVE ME ALONE (I'M LONELY) - P!nk

No.11

Currently touring Australia across 32 sell out dates, P!nk recently entertained viewers of the MTV Australian Video Music Awards with an aerial acrobatic live performance. P!nk has spent a whooping 57 weeks on the ARIA Albums Chart with her current album I’m Not Dead, which has been certified 6 x Platinum and is sitting pretty at #3 on this week’s ARIA Albums Chart. I’m Not Dead has also spawned four other tracks including Stupid Girls (#4 Mar. ’06), Who Knew (#2 July ’06), Nobody Knows (#27 Jan. ’07) and U + Ur Hand (#5 Oct. ’06).

UFO - Sneaky Sound System No.18

Black Angus, MC Double D and Miss Connie make up club favourites, Sneaky Sound System. The trio made their debut on the ARIA Singles Chart back in 2004 with Hip Hip Hooray. It peaked at #78 in February and preceded I Love It (#24 Jan. “07) and Pictures (#19 Dec. ’06), which came second in the dance/electronica category at the 2006 International Songwriting Competition. Recently Miss Connie (aka Connie Mitchell) was personally asked by Kanye West to record some tracks for his up-coming album and also worked with rapper, Snoop Dogg. SSS have toured with Robbie Williams and the Scissor Sisters and are about to embark on their own national tour.

IT'S NOT OVER - Daughtry No.22

Daughtry comprises of American Idol, finalist Chris Daughtry alongside Brian Craddock and Josh Steely on guitar, J.P. Paul on bass guitar and Joey Barnes on drums. Daughtry was formed shortly after Chris declined an offer to become Fuel’s new lead singer. Since his days on Idol, Chris has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry including Rob Thomas, Chad Kroeger and Ed Kowalczyk. It’s Not Over marks the band’s debut to the ARIA Singles Chart. In February this year, It’s Not Over peaked at #4 on the US Billboard Chart. Their self titled album is currently sitting at #65 on this week’s ARIA Albums Chart.

EVERYTHING - Michael Buble No.28

Canadian crooner, Michael Buble has achieved worldwide success since stepping into the music business. Definitely a favourite amongst the ladies, the debonair Buble has been compared to the late and great Frank Sinatra. Buble credits his grandfather for influencing his musical taste while growing up stating, "My grandfather was really my best friend growing up. He was the one who opened me up to a whole world of music that seemed to have been passed over by my generation”. Previous charting singles in Buble’s repertoire are Spiderman Theme / Sway Remix (#15 May ’04), Home (#35 May ’05) and Feeling Good (#70 Mar. ’05).

CATCH YOU - Sophie Ellis-Bextor No.44

In October 2000, the words on everyone’s lips were “If this Ain’t Love”. The Spiller track featured beautiful Brit, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and spent three consecutive weeks at #1 and blasted Sophie into the stardom stratosphere. After gaining such exposure, Ellis-Bextor released her first solo track, Take Me Home, but it failed to make an impact on our charts. But Ellis-Bextor did not stop there – Murder On The Dance Floor peaked at #3 in February 2002 and also charted in the Top 10 in five other countries. This was followed by Get Over You (#4 July ’02) and Music Gets The Best Of Me (#28 Nov. ’02). Stay tuned for Ellis-Bextor’s third album Trip The Light Fantastic out later this month.

SPIN FOR ME - Stealing O'Neal No.53

Hailing from Melbourne, Chris (vocals), James (drums), Tom (bass), Tim (guitar) and Jack (guitar) make their debut on the ARIA Singles Chart this week. The five lads have drawn their early musical influences from Blink 182 and Green Day, but they are not a band that wants to be pigeon-holed into one genre of music. Stealing O’Neal also cites their musical influences as Death Cab For Cutie, Bloc Party and New Order. Already Stealing O’Neal has graced the stage with some of Australia’s biggest names including The Veronicas, End Of Fashion, Kisschasy, After The Fall and Evermore.

ELECTRIC - Girlband No.73

This all girl group made their stamp on the music scene with the release of their debut single Party Girl, which peaked at #43 in October 2006. Patrice, Jessica, Renee B and Renee A are back with a vengeance and ready to electrify us all. Girlband starred in their own fly-on-the-wall documentary which filmed all the highs and lows of breaking into the music industry. The quartet’s hard efforts certainly paid off in the end, with the upcoming release for their new album.

HOLLYWOOD - Jay-Z Feat. Beyonce No.98

As two of the biggest names in the urban scene today, Jay-Z and Beyonce join forces once again for Hollywood. Their last released collaboration was on Beyonce’s, Déjà Vu (#12 Aug. ’06). In 2003 the rapper mogul declared that he was retiring from show business and would only work behind the scenes doing collaborations with other artists such as Linkin Park on the MTV Ultimate Mash-Ups Collision Course (#8 Jan. ’05) project. But in late 2006, Jay-Z returned to the spotlight and released, Show Me What You Got (#79 Dec. ’06), which features on his comeback album Kingdom Come (#95 Dec. ’06) alongside Hollywood.
