Julieta Venegas - Limon Y Sal

Mexican singer/songwriter Julieta Venegas follows her award winning album with another upbeat pop CD that's full of tunes that are bound to become favorites at backyard sing-alongs. Cheery, sun filled pop that would be easy to dismiss, except that the songs are so likeable that you'll find yourself singing along to many of them for years to come.

Pros

Pleasant, light, upbeat Latin pop

Cons

Might be a little too light for some tastes

Julieta Venegas has gone from being the darling of the Latin alternative / rock en español scene - writing songs where there was no such thing as a happy ending or a successful romance - to singing / composing sunny, upbeat pop tunes that are bubbly, hummable and deceptively simple. Why the change in sensibility? Apparently she woke up one day and decided that, barring any unforeseen tragedies, there was nothing wrong with being happy.

13 of the 14 tracks are composed or co-composed by Venegas. From the break out single "Me Voy", through the breezy tango rhythm of "De Que Me Sirve" to the folk sensibility of "No Sere" with its smooth accordion instrumental, this is not an album about driving rhythms and shaking your 'bon bon'. It is an album that tells simple stories accompanied by a nice beat and Venegas' pleasant alto voice.

Limon Y Sal reminds the Beatles singing "I Want To Hold Your Hand". Simple melody, silly lyrics. You'll find yourself singing along to this CD.
