Sandie Shaw & The Smiths

With it being 40 years since one of Morrissey's idols triumphed at Eurovision in 1967, I thought it was timely to review The Smiths contribution to Sandie Shaw's career in the 1980s.

1960s Pop star Sandie Shaw had ceased recording in 1972 and was in retirement when Morrissey came on a knocking one day to her home in Dagenham late in 1983 (where she had qualified as a Beauty Therapist).

After some reluctance Sandie was persuaded to record with The Smiths covers of the Morrissey & Marr compositions 'I Don't Owe You Anything', 'Jeane' & 'Hand In Glove'.

Hand In Glove was released as the single & in March 1984 it peaked at UK#24.

But this has to be one of the most surreal, bizzarre & hilarious moments in the history of TV. When The Smiths & Sandie Shaw appeared on a ITV children's TV show Charlie's Bus back in 1984.

PS.Don't you think Johnny Marr is a legend on this clip? :D
