I agree. Whilst I hated it, the Ukraine entry had more of a unique thing about it, whereas the UK was just pure tack.

Agree with many of the good posts here. It's not political voting it's having similar musical tastes.

Would also add that the UK have a big disadvantage be entering straight into final without the promotional impact of being heard before 2 days earlier in the semi-final.

I don't seriously think any entry straight into the final is ever going to win again. So in which case we are not going to win.

Actually, I would disagree there. Many of the results in the semi differed wildly from the final, examples being Hungary, who came second in the semi but 9th in the final, and Latvia who did well in the semi but flopped miserably in the final :( Also, let's not forget Greece in 2005 - they were pre-qualified and still won, and Ukraine and Russia came close last night ^_^ I don't think it's impossible, just that it's a bit harder to win straight in the final.

It is not only a UK-Hate thing... but a West-Europe-hate-thing! It's just about politics, and most of all, about NEIGHBOURHOOD!!!!

I'm from Spain, and tonight show was just soooooooooo dissapointing for all of us! C'mon, UK song was not the best, but there were lots of worse songs getting a highest position! The song winning is AWFUL!

Don't know what you think of Spanish song, but this year we were soooo proud of it (not as the embarrasing 2 previous years' songs), and we're 5th from the bottom!

The 15 most voted countries tonight are from Eastern Europe, while the bottom 6 are from West Europe, the middle section being the Northern countries... I think it's clear that something's wrong... The song is not imprtant anymore, just the place you're representing!

It's been the same thing for the Big 4 for the last 3 years, since all these East countries are in... some papers are callin' it "Eastvision" now...

We're still wondering what the fu** Andorra think they're doing! We've always have the 12 points from them, as they're almost part of Spain, they speak Spanish, but not a single point tonight!!! I still can't believe it!

You are such a hypocrite  You moan and moan about neighbourly voting before going on to complain that Andorra didn't give you a single point...-_-

True Tyron. I think the spanish entry was really weak that's why it finished in the bottom. BTW every country is proud of their own song so that's nothing new either.

My favourites of last night were Finland, Moldova, Ukraine (this was a joke that's why it worked) and the swedish entry was not that bad either. I'm wondering a bit that Finland had this year a stronger rock song whilst last year this Lordi thing was horrible and won. Maybe Finland didn't win again because it was the same genre and they didn't want to let win the same country twice in a row.

Cyprus and Greece share the same music industry basically - hence why they continually exchange votes -_-

The same applies with neighbourly voting, similar culture, similar music taste = votes, nobody votes on fecking politics at 10:30pm on a Saturday!

However the other week in the Greece Albums chart (IFPI Greece/Deloitte & Touche) Jennifer Lopez was at number one with Como Ama Una Mujer, Tiesto number 2 with Elements Of Life and Grinderman at number 3, while Ville Valo and Natalia Avelon were in the singles chart. Now even though all these acts are not English it looks like that none of these had either Peter Andre or Vangelis involved

Thats as rubbish and misguided as saying that the Proclaimers are from Eng-er-land!!! They dont speak Spanish they speak Catalan like they do in Catalonia with most Catalans wanting to be seen completely separate to the Castillian Spaniards in Madrid just like Basque do.

btw of the two princes/co-rulers of Andorra one is a bloke called Nicolas Sarkozy, you might have heard of him if you live in France

Don't you think there were FAR worse songs?

Considering just how diverse, vibrant and eclectic our music scene is in Britain, sending out the most godawful, cheesy, lowest-common-denominator sh!te is an insult not only to our music scene but I reckon to the intelligence of the rest of Europe... It;s all very well moaning about "Eastern Europe" or "The Balkans", but Scooch got damn all from France, Germany, Scandinavia, Holland, erm, most of "Western Europe" really, they just took one look Scooch and Daz Sampson and said "Fukk that!!!!!"....

then again why bother if wogans gonna p***-take and the uk gonna come bottom anyway. best just keep the kitsch fans happy

Then we'll just have to be content with coming bottom five pretty much forever then.....

well i think we should enter a chinese entry, or a bit of bollywood.

Until Wogan's fired anyway, I can't wait :cheer:

I actually blame Jack Barrowman far more for Scooch representing us than I do Terry Wogan to be honest... Barrowman was the one who was very blatant about his support for Scooch, more or less telling people who we should vote for, so if anyone should be sacked it should be that annoying Yank tit.... <_< Justin Hawkins' comments can be seen now as being fairly vindicated if you ask me, Scooch were the total fukkin' disaster he said they would be.... I reckon even he would've gotten us more points than Scooch did....

Yeah, why the hell not...? Couldn't be any worse than Scooch.... Probably get more votes, there are Chinese and Indian communities all over Europe that would vote for it more than likely.... Get a major Bollywood star to be our entry for next year. If we can have Canadians and Aussies representing us, why not an Indian, India is part of the Commonwealth after all...

maybe the only people who really really really take it seriously in the UK are the gay community though and so the thought was that they had to steer it towards a camp record? maybe barrowman was their voice of reason???

arent you both of Scottish originals though??? shouldnt you be sticking up for your countrymen

maybe if they put loads of Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi flags on stage as well just to reinforce the fact it will be better than Scooch's painted union flag trolleys

The UK has done rubbish in the last few years because we have sent total novelty kitsche rubbish that is unrepresentative of the UK scene.

The last time we sent a decent none gimmicky/cheesy/novelty song (Jessicca Garlick) we finished 3rd. The only conspiracy against the UK is the rest of Europe rightly hating our superior arrogant insular attitude to the ESC & with us blaming the anti-European vote on the war in Iraq rather than because we keep sending musical excrement.

All the Western European countries did badly, because there was not a decent song sent between the UK, France, Germany, Spain & Ireland.

Yes other countries musical tastes are different - For example Melanie C's First Day Of My Life single went to #1 in 6 European countries and went Top10 in 23 European Countries mainly in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia & the Balkans yet it failed to make the UK Top 75. Yet if you believe the British tabloids Mel C is a bitter ex-Spice Girl who is stopping her former band reforming whilst ignoring the fact that she has a very successful career in Europe as a music artist.
