Pretty Flamingo

I've Got You Under My Skin

Sandy

are all recorded songs.

I'm not sure whether to count the recorded medley songs like Bootylicious, Faith.

Teddy Bear

Merry Christmas Everybody

(performed live on TV)

Time of Your Life ( performed live and later broadcast by TV)

Again there was a Christmas medley which Darius performed live on This Morning and X-Change. Personally I think he sang enough of each of those to list them separately.

I'll go with the majority opinion about what to include and what to exclude from the list.

I've got you Under My Skin was live at the first NUTS . I liked that versu=ion best. Are we just voting for the song in general or for a particular version of it?

What about KIss? He performed that at Fauldhouse and in Glasgow as well.

The recorded Under My Skin is a live version too from the Dive In tour (Glasgow) - wish it had been on CD instead of a tape, because I haven't listened to it for ages - I'm scared of playing it in case it gets chewed up (my only copy) - Have any of you got a copy of it on CD/on PC please?

Didn't he do a medley of Kiss mixed with something else on the Dive In tour? I've just listened to the Oran Mor Kiss today on Clyde 1 ... can't remember it at Fauldhouse though, but my memory is like a sieve today

I can't remember seeing Time of Your Life on TV either - I heard it recorded Live from Forth One I think it was on Jill's site, just after PI - what TV programme was it on and is there any footage anywhere? - would love to see it :)

OK, we'll add Kiss.

I thought I remembered seeing Time Of Your Life on TV coverage of One Big Sunday at Falkirk.

I'll try to dig out my tapes later and see if I can find it.

Is this the completed list? Anyone want to argue to include Justin's Like I Love You, 50 Cent's In Da Club or any other ?

Should Flower of Scotland be added to this list? He sang it before Live Twice was issued, didn't he?

Am I right in thinking the two spoof songs, Bye Bye Busted and Kilt with a Fly belong in the Live Twice era?

Would they have a place in the covers vote at all?

Sorry for all the questions. just count them as my first contribution to the discussion.

Just watched the Fauldhouse 'Kiss' on SM's .org site.

He didn't mix it with anything but he talked to the very rowdy audience in what would have been the instrumental bit in the middle.

I don't believe I'd forgotten he sang it - how could I forget those hips?

Fauldhouse was such a surreal night - venue, 'support act', question time..it was all worked so well and Darius met everybody who wanted to speak to him, and the band stayed out and mingled too.

Maybe it was just on Scottish TV at the time then Baytree - I know there has been quite a bit of Darius TV stuff that fans over the border didn't get to see :( - I wonder if it's on Sonnet's site?

I think he mixed Kiss with Hot in Herre, that performance of Kiss was mind blowing,

Yep that could have been it PiP - I just know that out of every Kiss performance I've seen or heard, the medley one on the Dive In tour is the one I thought was the best.

Was 'Like I love you' involved in that medley section too? . I can't remember how it all ran now :( .... wish we had a Dive In tour DVD

Yes to the first question and not sure to the second - set to existing tunes, but the lyrics were completely original B)

Flower of Scotland was around Feb 04 I think? .... not really part of any album era to me though - I suppose it's a sort of cover, but I don't really think of it that way, with it being a national anthem type performance

Honestly, I really can't remember it from there, not saying it wasn't, 'cos obviously it was, just that it mustn't have made much of an impression on me at Fauldhouse ... but the medley version on the Dive In tour definitely did though :D - I think the medley had more creativity/originality too.

- I do however remember 'Happy Talk' at Fauldhouse and 'Brush Up Your Shakespear too! ;)

... Live Twice especially & Devil in You as well - I remember those most from Darius's set at Fauldhouse :)

Having looked at your covers list though, there's a few that I can't remember well enough to rate/say whether I like them or not anyway. To do it properly, I'd need to listen to them again - so unless they're online/put online somewhere, I'll have to automatically disregard them.

Which ones haven't you heard, Surfexperience?

There's an audio of Time Of Your Life on SM's .org site. Click on the link to take you to the older index and then music. In fact, it's on the same page as the PI covers.

I think Darius often chose covers to send a message eg when he sang Faith at the big charity auction early 2002 when he'd just turned down SC (although we didn't know that at the time) and he dedicated it to Simon who then pointedly made a show of not watching him. :D

Now they're both out in Los Angeles and even there they can't escape each other because their girlfriends are very good friends. Still I think personally they've always got on but musically the rift is as wide as the Atlantic.

Simons and Darius' GFs are good friends - that is interesting, I do hope Darius is making the most of networking, SC is influencial however you regard his ideas of good pop!

Darius said in the Hello interview with Natasha that he has no intentions of trying to start any kind of a career in the US.

In which case Darius, come home now!!

Under my Skin was such a high spot for me in the Dive in Tour, way before NUTS (have to say that event in 05 concert wise was a disappointment, too maudlin and full of misery to contain anything by Darius ...) All the cover versions on the tour were just spot on and showed his versatility from Sinatra to Blink 182

We have said it before, Darius can sing anything .. He could chant the contents of the phone book in plainsong and it would be fabulous

Oh for god's sake man, come home and sing to me ....

Darius has always spent time working on his music in the US though, even before meeting Natasha, he was out there quite a bit, working with other people, recording etc... Wherever, or however he plans to release music in the future though - he still has to do the writing and recording part, unless we do want albums and gigs full of covers, or songs he hasn't written himself - I know I don't - so I'd rather he were forcusing on the creative side for a while - build up a stock of songs that he's happy with etc ... before the next move I think. If he wants to test a few out - then that would be great! ... but if not, I can wait :)

Thanks Baytree - Yes, I've had that Time of Your life since he did it just after PopIdol and Jill put it on the site - so I'll be judging that song, on that performance of it - unless there are other versions online anywhere that you think are better?

It's some of the TV's & Live's - l have a problem with at the moment - I've heard everything once when it happened - but I can't remember what they were like now though, not sufficiently to rank them - I'd need to hear them again.

Time of your Life - I have the live radio version from Jill's site - so that might be the same one you mean there.

Teddy Bear - I think that's on Jill's site - so I might be able to listen to that again.

Kiss - there's the Oran Mor and Fauldhouse versions knocking about, but I'm sure I'd prefer the Dive In tour medley versions of Kiss/hot in here/Like I Love you - I need to see if I can find clips of those from the Dive in Tour anywhere?

- same with All the Small Things and all those 'Christmassy' songs - I've only ever heard them either the once, or it's so long ago, that I can't remember if I like them or not.

Take no notice of me everyone .... Im having a rubbish day, wishing for some Darius action .... Its just so nice to be able to let it all hang out ....

Speaking of songs from this "era" wasnt Pretty Flamingo recorded in LA at a little club off Sunset Strip ... whatever it was it always sounds so "Scottish Pub Live Music Scene" to me .... and I love it

It was recorded at the Kashmir Klub - but I always assumed it was the one in London though?

Now that's one I have got fortunately

Sorry, I've sort of left this thread drifting aimlessly. Does anyone want discussion time for these or can we move on to stage 2 and rate them?

Surfexperience, have you had a chance to hear at least snippets of them ?
