Yeah for example no-one had heard of Marija Serifovic anywhere else, but many Balkan countries already had. However I do still think that there is an element of voting just because they are neighbours, have family living there or whatever. The thing that really pissed me off about the voting is the immigrant votes. Ireland voting for Lithuania, Spain voting for Romania, just about everyone voting for Turkey and Armenia and so on...

Indeed, if you ask me, diaspora voting for Turkey, Armenia etc. is a FAR bigger issue than neighbourly voting, simply because that isn't based on culture - that's just based on unfair patriotism which doesn't represent the actual views of the country that gives the vote...<_<

It really obvious right now everyone is soo against my point of view :( so I will no longer post in eurovision section. But I'll leave with this, Shouldn't we have similar tastes 2 Ireland? Why dont we give them 12 all the time, their music charts are almost the same as ours...Why doesnt Ireland give us all 12 points? How did the U.K. Give their 12 points to Turkey? We dont have the same musical tastes as them :o

Anyway I'll leave it at that, whole show bores me madly!

Also, I agree, Cyndi may not have won, but we'd have done a hell of a lot better!! She gave a great performance, with a ballad. What sort of song WON this year, again? Was it a ballad?

;)

The last time we sent a female with a decent voice singing a power-ballad we finished 3rd.

Since then we've sent novelty sub-Stock/Aitken/Waterman cheese and done rubbish.

If we'd have sent Cyndi we would have at least finished Top 12.

Tyron actually posted that comment of someone elses, and not his own view. Although whether he agreed or not, I don't recall. There IS predictability and there IS block voting, but it is because THE BORDERING COUNTRIES HAVE SIMILAR CULTURE HERITAGE AND MUSICAL TASTE. THAT is why you can predict the "12 points" countries.

yes i agree!!!!!!

or no i don't!!!!!!!

You want to know why? - neither the UK or Ireland entered a song which is representative of the CURRENT musical culture. We may have similar music tastes, but neither Scooch nor Dervish entered songs representative of what they are...

And as for Turkey, I don't have an answer at all for that  I can only think of one possible answer - chavs. But since when did they watch Eurovision? I really don't know what happened with Turkey :( But it was quite an urban song, so I think the answer may lie in that - one part of our music tastes ;)

then our music charts are the same as most of europe with a few local acts in among beyonce, shakira and justin timberlake

btw why was Russia trying to be Cherion circa 1999?

well i know they speak French in Canada but last time i looked it was in North America

That did that have to do with my point that the Eurochart is mainly influenced by the charts of western Europe?

the fact that Serbia won, with douze points coming from: Montenegro, Belarus, Armenia, ANDORRA, AUSTRIA, FRANCE, DENMARK, GREECE, SPAIN, Serbia, FINLAND & Turkey - I doubt that many people would consider the countries in block (no pun intended...) capitals part of the Balkan bloc! Or then again, maybe they all emigrated for half an hour just to vote for Serbia...-_-

How could Serbia get points from Serbia?

And great joke about emigrating.

I think there's Balkan Bloc, but just look on the East Europe bloc with Russia and all countries around which years and years ago didn't give any points to Serbia. They just give 8, 10 or 12 points to each others. Just one more thing, Serbia give 7 to Ukraine.

Serbia didn't get any points from: Andorra, Estonia, Lithuania, Turkey and the UK.

And if we are talking about Balkan bloc how we can explain the thing that these countries gave high points to Serbia: Finland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands...

Whoops, my mistake

But the point still stands, people CANNOT and SHOULD NOT blame the top 3 doing well because of bloc voting. #4 and #8 are more worthy of concern, tbh...<_< I have no idea how diaspora voting could be combatted :(

The Irish are apparently really pissed off that their vote was "hijacked" by immigrants of Latvia and Lithuania. I hope the Poles never have that affect on the British vote.

Well, they only gave Poland 3 this year with I song I could see appealing to some in Britain anyway, so I don't think it will be too bad ^_^

I wonder if the uk will give poland high votes if it ever makes it in to the final.. they day i see a rubbish polish song get 12 votes from the uk, just because alot of polish people live here, is the day i switch off

Not really, it was called "Time to Party" by the Jet Set. It's average at best tbh.
ooooh, that. yes, it's very forgettable (clearly ), not shocked it didn't make the final.
