Posted May 14, 200718 yr Irish broadcaster, RTE, will review the country's position in the Eurovision Song Contest after finishing in last place for the first time in their history on Saturday night. An RTE spokeswoman confirmed to newspaper, The Irish Examiner yesterday. “We will definitely be having a sit-down and looking at our geographical position and going through the whole process...Without doubt that’s going to happen. It was a long night.” Lead singer of Irish representative, Dervish, Cathy Jordan is quoted as saying “We were really proud of them. They performed really well on the night and we were happy with the song but it just wasn’t our night...I enjoyed the experience. The performance felt really good and the feedback from home was great but it’s not what the masses, particularly in eastern Europe, want to hear.” Ireland hold the record for the most victories in the Eurovision Song Contest, having taken the crown seven times. Johnny Logan remains the only singer to win the competition twice as a singer and the country racked up a staggering four wins in five years in the 1990s. Irish fortunes have turned sharply since the removal of the rule stating countries must perform in their own language, and the country has struggled in recent years to reach the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. It seems that the race may indeed on to follow Monaco's lead in withdrawing from the Eurovision Song Contest unless there is a change in the qualification process or voting procedure. The Netherlands and Malta are both reported to be considering withdrawal after poor results in the semi final this year. http://www.esctoday.com/news/read/8703
May 14, 200718 yr 'Twas inevitable really :( I don't believe for a second Malta would withdraw :o They ADORE Eurovision there, it would be a tragedy if a two year run of bad results convinced them to not enter next year
May 14, 200718 yr that irish song was good, but that bint couldnt sing... it just didnt work. a good song ruined by awful vocals.
May 14, 200718 yr I reckon those countries that are considering pulling out are just showing a bit of sour grapes really, they cant handle the fact that the times are changing and their influence has now pretty much vanished... Ireland had a good run in the 80s and 90s, but frankly every entry they ever came up with sounded almost exactly the same, their entry this year was just pretty second rate Enya-lite which just didn't register with anyone anywhere really, not even the sizeable Irish communities in the UK gave a toss about it... Perhaps if they tried to convince Bono to give it a go in 2008.....?
May 14, 200718 yr It'd definately be a tragedyif more countries started to pul out but i can see what they're saying, I'm sure it's not cheap to hold competitions like 'Making Your Mind Up' to choose a song and then for it not to even get into the main show much be awful! Also, as we saw this year, some of the songs judged as favorites before the semis didn't get through so I agree something must be done...
May 14, 200718 yr France are also wanting to withdraw apparently. :o :o :o Belgium, Austria and Andorra too. I'm thinking a good few of these will as well, especially the Netherlands, Ireland and Andorra.

I'm thinking a good few of these will as well, especially the Netherlands, Ireland and Andorra. FRANCE?! :o It won't happen. Simple as. I reckon the Dutch, the Andorrans, the Belgians, the Swiss and the Austrians won't be with us next year http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/3078/heeheewk3.gif
May 14, 200718 yr They'll all be back in 2009 though. It's just a shame that the semi-finals won't be done by time zones, and we probably won't get a great deal of differences in the countries qualifying...

It's just a shame that the semi-finals won't be done by time zones, and we probably won't get a great deal of differences in the countries qualifying... They really should be split by time zones, it's the most sensible option and will stop people whinging about eastern dominance...<_<

May 14, 200718 yr Looks like alot of countries are going to pull out.. it'll be good if they do.. and then something WILL be done about the neighbourly voting...also my sis is in france and they aren't happy.. i wouldn't be surprised if they left.... i'v seen alot of uk tv hosts saying that we should leave too... the end of the eurovision? :o
May 14, 200718 yr We won't leave. The BBC endured a MASSIVE ratings success on Saturday, there's plenty of years left in us yet.
May 14, 200718 yr Netherlands has confirmed that it WILL participate in 2008. Excellent. I hope they send Edsilia again but with a better song, one of Hemel En Aarde standards preferably!
May 14, 200718 yr According to wikipedia.... There's also talk of new countries taking part.... Azerbaijan!!! (they failed to meet the deadline for this year's contest) Monaco and Slovakia may return.
May 14, 200718 yr Hmmm well come on. Even though France, Germany etc did put in some really $h!t songs this year - it is down to Balkan Bumming - whether it's political or not. I say all the western countries should pull out and let them carry on arselicking each other.
May 14, 200718 yr Svante Stockselius doesn't realise though. :( Haha that name makes me laugh. Svante really is a leader of Bush-esque proportions :( REPLACE HIM WITH DAVID! :cheer:http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/3078/heeheewk3.gif Looks like alot of countries are going to pull out.. it'll be good if they do.. and then something WILL be done about the neighbourly voting...also my sis is in france and they aren't happy.. i wouldn't be surprised if they left.... i'v seen alot of uk tv hosts saying that we should leave too... the end of the eurovision? :o Definitely not. None of the Big 4 will pull out, and the EBU will find a solution. Netherlands has confirmed that it WILL participate in 2008. :cheer: I want Esther Hart or whatever her name was back again  Or Edsilia ^_^ Excellent. I hope they send Edsilia again but with a better song, one of Hemel En Aarde standards preferably! Or at the very least keep her on to announce the votes and send the Dutch guy who chatted up Sakis Rouvas last year http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/3078/heeheewk3.gif

May 14, 200718 yr I like monaco  anyway, where is Azerbaijan, somebody should make a thread and introduce us to the new country ^_^
