I don't know why Ireland stopped using the winner of Your a star (the Irish X Factor) for it,that was more suited imo., even though they did'nt do well

It would take some time to convince Bono to do the Eurovision

It would pretty much guarentee a win though, but it would never ever happen and would'nt be fair on other smaller countries who did'nt have mege successful stars to put through.

Serbia entered Marija Serifovic, she's quite a star in the Balkans and look what happened!

Moldova making a final decision in October. The broadcaster is having financial difficulties. Should they pull out, it will mean that Bosnia-Herzegovina will go directly through to the final.

Hi everyone

Seeing as Azerbaijan can qualify to enter Eurovision I want Australia to participate too. Eurovision is very popular in Australia here but it is very frustrating having to always sneak in by the back door

eg

- Johnny Logan (2 time winner) was born here in Melbourne

- Olivia Newton John represented the UK in 1974

- Jane Comerford representing Germany in 2006

- Gina G representing the Uk in 1996

The only problem is the rules around what constitutes Europe ie the European Broadcasting area.

from wikipedia...

The European Broadcasting Area is defined by the International Telecommunication Union as such:

The "European Broadcasting Area" is bounded on the west by the western boundary of Region 1, on the east by the meridian 40° East of Greenwich and on the south by the parallel 30° North so as to include the western part of the USSR, the northern part of Saudi Arabia and that part of those countries bordering the Mediterranean within these limits. In addition, Iraq, Jordan and that part of the territory of Turkey lying outside the above limits are included in the European Broadcasting Area.

The western boundary of "Region 1" is a line drawn west of Iceland down the centre of the Atlantic Ocean.

The boundaries of the European Broadcasting Area have their origin in the regions served and linked by telegraphy cables in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The European Broadcasting Area plays a part in the definition of eligibility for participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Seeing as Australia abuts France and Norway in Antarctica and New Caledonia (part of France) is one of our nearest neighbours (closer to France than Azerbaijan) I think the boundaries need to be redrawn to include Australia.

We want in!!!

cheers Peter

let's hope the UK does the same and rises above this sorry contest - it's more fun to laugh at the dreadful entries the eastern block and Scandanavian countries enter anyway.....

Well for a start Azerbaijan were rejected entry earlier this year so they aren't part of it  And people moan anyway about the inclusion of Israel despite the Israelis being culturally European, the whole thing would just be rejected as a joke by the British public (actually...it is already :() if Australia entered!

Hi again

I'm sure Azerbaijan will be around in a year or two's time.

Heck we are are more culturally European than some of the countries in the EU and remember we have migrants from all over Europe.

One day maybe...

cheers Peter

No, they've been point blank refused entry, they won't be back for a while, at least for 5 or 6 years  And I dispute your claim to be more culturally European than EU countries, seeing as that contradicts itself :funky:

"Hey Bono, there's really low tax rates in Serbia!"
