Posted May 14, 200718 yr Justin Hawkins Slams Eurovision Losers Scooch Gigwise.com by Chris Taylor on 14/05/2007 Eurovision loser Justin Hawkins has rubbed salt into Scooch’s wounds, calling their flop-song “rubbish”. The former Darkness frontman lost out to Scooch’s ‘Flying The Flag (For You)’ as the UK’s Eurovision entry, but has indulged in some schandenfraude following the pop band’s failure at Saturday’s finals. He told Matthew Wright’s show this morning, “I think Scooch lost because they were rubbish. “The BBC shouldn’t have put it forward. It was supposed to be different this year. The clues in the title, Eurovision Song Contest. It should have been a song.” "If Cyndi (the UK's runner up from selection show) had been our entry, we could easily have finished in the Top 10, because she was a good singer with a good song, like the winning entry from Serbia." Justin also joked that the show’s block voting shouldn’t be criticised, because if it wasn’t for the sympathy of Ireland and Malta, the UK would have scored ‘nul points’. Do you agree with Justin or do you think it is just sour grapes?
May 14, 200718 yr Sour grapes indeed, but he's right about Cyndi. However the song he is criticising IS the one that charted one place higher than his only solo effort. :heehee:
May 14, 200718 yr Shoulda, coulda, woulda...he is just desparate for publicity since his career is down the toilet. I doubt Cyndi would have done much better...the song is quite bland ballad and the Eastern voters seem to embrace ballads with ethnicity.
May 15, 200718 yr Well, he's spot on tbh, and I am certainly no Hawkins supporter in any way.... I think his views are totally vindicated in the cold light of day really... Even his song would've done a bit better than Scooch I reckon.... And for anyone on the Eurovision Forum to accuse Hawkins of "sour grapes" after all the utter sh!te that has been spouted about "political voting", "block voting" and "the bloody Balkans" is frankly a case of the pot calling the kettle black..... You're ALL an even bigger pile of whingers than Justin IMHO, but at least he actually had a valid reason to whinge at that utter "Making Your Mind Up" farce.....
May 15, 200718 yr Sour grapes. You lost. Get over it. Crawl back to Fraggle Rock.  You dont kinda think that the guy does have a point though....? I mean, Scooch were an absolute disaster, an even worse placing than Dodgy Daz last year, there's just no getting round it... And it's not actually as if he's saying that he should've been there instead, he's actually saying another act other than him should have been our representative.... So, I dunno tbh. I'm no cheerleader for Hawkins, cant stand the guy or his music truth be told, but I think in this one case he has a point...
May 15, 200718 yr After the rubbish Scooch this year. What about next year - Teletubbies, Mr. Blobby or Bob The Builder perhaps.
May 16, 200718 yr Hes not being sour at all! And 'desperate for publicity' - if so, why did he QUIT the darkness?! He wanted less publicity, so he could get his life back on track!

No I don't think he has a point. I think we could send one of our best acts and we would STILL come last or thereabouts. We could have sent any one of the acts in MYMU and I doubt it would have been any different. The majority of Europe hates us and I strongly think they should rename it Eurovision Who's Best Friends With Who? Contest. There's been a lot of stuff in the press about it being unfair etc, and I do agree with it, one MP even suggested having the UK withdrawn from the contest altogether which I whole-heartedly agree with. It's not fair on the UK and it's even more unfair on the act representing us to come almost last every year despite the song or their talent.
May 16, 200718 yr Hes not being sour at all! And 'desperate for publicity' - if so, why did he QUIT the darkness?! He wanted less publicity, so he could get his life back on track! Oh and I disagree with that as well. I think it's a load of $h!t, the only reason he quit The Darkness was because of his OWN arrogance in thinking that he WAS The Darkness and would be more successful solo. Big mistake Justin, people hated you IN The Darkness and now people hate you even more OUT of The Darkness.

Thanks to the members who frequent this forum, I was pursuaded for the first ever time to watch the Eurovision Song Contest with an open mind to decide who was going to win & who was going to do badly. In the end 5 of my favourite 6 2007 Songs finished in the Top 6 (including my favourite the Serbian entry which won), while 5 of the 6 songs that I thought were worst finished in the bottom 6. Personally, I think that tells it's own story. The reasons the Western European countries did badly was because they all sent awful songs, as we have every year (excluding Daz Sampson - but the lyrics & joke were too colloquial for Eastern Europeans tastes) since 2002. In 2002 we sent a pretty female singer with a pretty good ballad (Jessica Garlick - Come Back) which finished 3rd. We have not sent a good entry since then & we have finished in the bottom 6 every year as a result. I actually agree with Justin Hawkins that Cyndi would have done much better than a bottom 6 position for the UK. It's hardly rocket science. Send a good song by a good singer/performer and we might do well.

I completely disagree and will detail why later, but I have stuff to do atm :funky:

This will more or less echo what Rich has said but anyway... Eurovision isn't political - countries vote for their neighbours yes, but it certainly isn't political. Well, Cyprus not voting for Turkey probably is but that's all. People don't not vote for us because we're the United Kingdom and we have troops in Iraq, it's because we've been sending $h!te. And here is more or less proof that the war on Iraq in 2003 isn't the cause of floppages in 2003/4/5/6/7... JUNIOR EUROVISION 2003 (the year Jemini got nul and Iraq was blamed) - 118 points, third. 2004 - 140 points, second. 2005 - we flopped this year, but seven of the 17 countries voted for us. For me, that's enough evidence that people aren't voting for us because of the song, and not because they don't like us. If we'd send Cyndi, we WOULD have finished top ten, I near guarantee it. -_-
May 16, 200718 yr Who's Best Friends With Who? Contest. Well Eastern Europe aren't friend with each other, that's for sure  Only about 10 years ago was one of the worst wars I can remember, which tore Eastern Europe apart. If they were going to vote against who they didn't like, most of Eastern Europe would probably turn against each other, as I'm pretty sure everything isn't amazing there yet.

And as David has pointed out in his post we seem to do quite well in the Junior competition so I think if there actually was a political element it would extend into that competition as well surely.... And as Andrew has pointed out, wasn't that long ago when the Serbs was going around committing acts of fukkin' Genocide on half the Balkans, and were international pariahs, and they actually win it this year, so, come on..... Politics...? Bollocks... Don't buy it Kelz, not for a minute... And even if the rest of Europe does hate us, what in the hell have they got against Ireland then.....? Ireland aint done nowt to p!ss anyone off as far as I can see..... Could it be that their song was pretty p!ss-poor, just like ours.....? The facts are, Britain has sent horrendous entries from complete non-entities for years now, Jemini were utter garbage, they couldn't even sing the right fukkin NOTES on the night... I mean, actually watch the clip on You Tube, only a delusional idiot, or a member of the group, could possibly say that it was anything other than just being sh"te..... James "stubbly man" Fox was such a bloody musical no-mark that he's hardly worth mentioning.....Daz was complete bollocks as well, a '99p Store' Mike Skinner singing a pathetic watered down version of Coolio's brilliant "Gangsta's Paradise" with a bunch of bimbo "Britney-goes-Hentai" wannabes gyrating around like tuppeny whores.... Yeah, a great contribution to British music I must say. Done so much since then hasn't he....? As for Scooch.....Well,   simply bloody pathetic, Scooch just do not represent what's been happening in the UK music scene over the past five years, or really represent what's happening in any music scene anywhere...... It really is about time we stopped fukkin' around with losers, has-beens and never-weres, and actually sent out one of our Internationally famous stars...... Mel C is doing pretty damned well in Continental Europe so I hear, let's put in a call to her..... ANYTHING is better than the present situation, even an ex-Spice Girl (mind you, she IS the one who has by far the most talent....)
May 17, 200718 yr I think Liz McClarnon would of done better than scooch, for two reasons 1. her song was better and 2. she or atomic kitten were well known over much of europe and that may of encouroged people to vote for her.
May 17, 200718 yr I think Liz would've completely flopped if she'd gone. I can't see her getting any more points than Scooch at all, the song was totally bland imo.
